Default Where is Zone Alarm? I mean Really?

I have a dell computer with Zone alarm on it ( I get messages from Zone alarm from time to time )

While searching for a fix to my msconfig problem, I found that someone had posted that by turning off Zone alarm, they ceased to get an access Denied message that I was getting. I was keen to try this, so I looked for Zone Alrm Icon....

And I do not have one. I do not have any directory named Zone labs or Zone Alarm.

So could some brave soul tell me where it resides, so I can turn it off and get my other problem attended to?

Mundo thanks for all your assistance!!

Can you access Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if Zone Alarm is in the list of installed programs?

Came up full-- no Zone alarm is in the installed list. Unless it goes by some other name.

If it was on your system it should be in that list, and should also be in the Program Files folder.

Is there any process or service running for it in Task Manager?

Also, what kind of messages do you get from it from time to time?

I agree - an extensive search has not yielded it .

The messages that I see coming from Zone Alarm, are usually concerning a program ( I installed oracle on my laptop in the last case ) which needed a connection to the internet. I get an allow or disallow window and it plainly said Zone Alarm.

I looked at the Taskmanager list and can see no process that is zone alarm related. I can be wrong, so if you know a few names I should be looking for feel free to pass them my way.

At this point, I am considering just buying a new copy and adding it to the machine just to get it over with.

    thanks for all your help

You should see zaclient.exe in the process list.
I'm not really sure why you can't see any of the Zonealarm folders or anything. Do you have full administration access to the PC you're using? The only reason I can think is that it's hidden from you for some reason.

The key one to see is vsmon.exe in TaskManager or Process Explorer. ZA client is just the user interface part.
If vsmon not running, the firewall is not active.
In Control Panel is there a True Vector service listed? That's the vsmon thing.

Other places to look for some evidence besides Program files:
    c:\windows\internet logs
    c:\windows\system32\zone labs
if found, what are the dates of files within? Anything recent?

The Oracle connection alert was recent?

Hmm, Perhaps unhiding things in the directories using an admin account would show something. Or in safe mode.

    Thanks for the fingerprint vectors.

At this time, my Taskmanager shows no sign of a zaalert process. I checked the directories as a user in the administrators group and could seee no zone labs anywhere. There is no directory named internet logs.

The oracle message was on June 15th of this year, following an install. The window plainly said Zone alarm. Only when I went looking for it recently was it not there.

If I put in a new copy of zone alarm, will this give me problems? I mean I Thought it would stay in there, not sneak out on me.....

Here are the download links - if I were you. I'd go for 7.0.483.000 as v8 seems to have some problems. Good luck.

    ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html
    ZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html
    ZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html
    ZAAS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html
    ZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html

    User manual http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/med...ser_manual.pdf

As you install, if there really is ZA in your computer, you'll hear about it right away, as ZA will tell you about it.

BLACK thought - sometimes malware disables firewalls. But to make it totally invisible, I don't know. This is all very strange. Sneaking out part

Is it possible that the Oracle thing was trying to sell you ZA? Or that ZA was imbedded in it?
