Default How can I get rid of the ZA button on the taskbar?

I have been using ZA Security Suite for some years, and have recently reformatted my HD (Don't ask....).

I now find that, in addition to the normal "Z" icon in the system tray, there's a "ZA Security Suite" button on the taskbar - which does nothing and can't be got rid of. Double-clicking on it does nothing, rght-clicking just brings up a small box saying "ZA security Suite" just aboveit.

Does it *do* anything and in any case can I get rid of it?

    TIA.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:7.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

By button you mean the active program rectangle, right?
Open it or double click the ZA icon to open the client, the UI part of ZA.
Now using the X in the right corner close it.
There'll be a warning about terrible consequences.
Tell ZA to remember and not bother you any more.
Then the button you speak of should vanish.
It will only come back and go away as you open and close the GUI via the Z-icon.
I hope this answers your query

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

But I think you have misunderstood the problem: the ZA rectangle on the taskbar IS like the usual one when you minimise the ZA management window - but it can't be deleted or "opened" - it just suts there!

If I minimise the normal ZA window, it goes to the taskbar as usual, and is identical to and alongside the problem "button" - and can be right clicked and disposed of back to the systray. But the other one just glares at me!

    Sorry for any misunderstanding.
Please post a screen shot to imageshack or photobucket of the button in question and any other screen shot that would help understand what you're experiencing.

    OK!

I've put a screenshot onto Photobucket, under the title "screenshotZA icon", in my (small) folder Wol_photos.

    TIA

I think I understand what you are talking about. That has happened tome on occasion and I am not sure what triggers it. It is not a "button" as such but showing in the task bar what programs are "open" or something like that. In any event I get rid of it by "shutting down" ZAISS and then going to my programs list and re-"open" ZAISS again. Then it si gone from the task bar. Granted for a minute your system is unprotected but it does get that annoying extra "button" off the task bar.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's seen it!

I rebooted and it has gone away. Perhaps your method is the way to go.

    Thanks.

This has been happening to me for at least two years now. It is not a major PITA, but it is annoying. Uninstall and reinstall just doesn't cut it. Come on ZoneAlarm programmers, let's fix it!

And a year later it's still doing it, on two different machines. AV software has always seemed to be full of little annoyances and ZA is no exception.

I have found that shutting down ZA and restarting it clears the dead buttons, but it's very irritating.
