    Default Temporarily shutting down ZA

I am having problems when after I log into Yahoo to get on a sub-web page, like Finance, the screen is blank and at bottom of page it says: stopped although the wheel is still churning as if it is looking for the page . I tried to shut down ZA to see if some of the settings maybe the cause of the problem. But it wouldn't shut down. I received a message to close dialog box I didn't have any open.) I tried as a Limited User and as Administrator and neither would allow me to shut ZA. I don't recall having had this problem . My privacy settings are the same , I make sure to "allow" any entries which may be connected to Yahoo and Mozilla . There is only one entry in the program list with Firefox and before I updated to the latest version several weeks ago there were at least 2 entries. Thank you for your help.

    <hr></blockquote>grandmere,
Sounds like two issues here: one the zone alarm database may be corrupted and secondly, when accessing yahoo your settings need adjusting.
    First issue, Resetting the database:
In another post you indicated your privacy list was gone and then back again.
    Did you reset the database?
If not, you may be dealing with a corrupted database.
    Try doing a database reset:
Unfortunately, for all of us, that happens from time to time,
Causes could be an &quot;unusual&quot; shutdown like a power outage or crash.
To reset the Zone Alarm database do this:
1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot
Be aware that by resetting the database you will lose all your customizations.
    Second Issue, Problems accessing yahoo
Clean your cacheTurn off cookies, turn off ad blocking, turn off mobile code

Thank you for your help . After I turned off the privacy options everything worked .I am keeping the advice re-the data base as we get power surges periodically. Is it safe to have the Mobile options off. I thought Java was not safe , I am paranoid about security.

    grandmere,
You're welcome glad yahoo is working for you again.

As to the settings, the zone alarm default settings are cookies off, ad blocking off and mobile code off.

    You are
protected as zone alarm is always working for you to prevent malware from getting into your computer.
So yes its safe; you can however customize your za by using the privacy advisor and allowing only certain sites to have certain privileges; it's really a matter of what kinds of sites you and/or your family members go to on the computer and how much customizing you want to do.
Some people have very customized settings; others turn off cookies, ad blocking and mobile code for all sites - it's an individual thing.
Another good practice, if you are not already doing so is to periodically run antivirus and antispyware scans in ZAISS
Keeping your computer and your internet surfing safe is a matter of staying away from bad sites, not opening email from anyone you don't know, and watching what you download among other things.
    And I recommend reading Guru Oldsod's &quot;Surf Safe&quot; thread: http://forums.zonealarm.org/zonelabs...ssage.id=17114
You may want to download the latest zone alarm manual:http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/me...ser_manual.pdf

I AM GOING TO DO THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED . I SHOULD DOWNLOAD ZA MANUAL BUT IT IS 250 PAGES AND EVEN WHEN I GO TO THE HELP OPTION BEFORE GOING TO THE FORUM THE EXPLANATIONS ARE OFTEN ABOVE MY PAY GRADE (WHICH IS 0 SINCE I HAVE BEEN RETIRED SINCE 1996.)AND I BELIEVE ALL THE &quot;HELP&quot; SOLUTIONS ARE FROM THE MANUAL . I'VE HAD NORTON AND BLACK ICE PRIOR TO ZA AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE ANY SELECTIONS. AFTER I POSTED THAT EVERYTHING WAS GREAT . THIS MORNING I COULDN'T GET TO &quot;FINANCE&quot; ON YAHOO . IT IS STRANGE AS I CAN CHECK MY EMAIL AFTER SIGNING IN, GO TO THE YAHOO MAIN PAGE AND AND I DID NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS SINCE THINGS WORKED SWIMMINGLY . I DON'T THINK THERE WAS AN UPDATE BEFORE I SHUT DOWN MY P.C. BUT TA VERY MUCH AS THEY SAY IN LONDON
