Thread: System hangs on shutdown with 8.0.059.000

    Default System hangs on shutdown with 8.0.059.000

    Installed ZA 8.0.059.000 on 10/25/08. Only problem is that I can't shut the
    computer down without powering off. Operating system is XP home sp3. Is there a solution.

    Thanks. Finally remembered that I could use REDIT to view files.

    The value in 'waittokillservice'
    is 5000. (seconds?) I don't know if that got changed by the install of the new Zone Alarm. I don't feel comfortable using REGEDIT to change anything.
    If this is the problem is there a safe way to change this.

    I'm afraid that regedit is the best way to modify this setting, by default it should be 20000 (20 seconds), however in your case chaing this would probably have little or no imact, however is worth a try.
    This change is very simple and very little risk to you at all, give it a shot.
    All you need to do is open the registry entry and modify one number.
    Other than that,as a test try manually shutting down Zonealam (right click tray icon, choose shutdown).
    Open task manager & ensure that vsmon.exe & scanningprocess.exe are not running.
    Then try to shut down your machine, what is the result?
    Perhaps you might like to try this with any other applications/services you have running, it might be some form of conflict between two applications (ZoneAlarm might not be the cause, just the trigger).

    Hi!yes... confirm 20000 is the default value.Avoid using registry or system optimisation tools, they end up breaking the registry rather than fixing it.Please post back if this fix the issue...otherwise there other 2 things to try.Cheers,Fax

    Changing the value to 20000 did the trick. Don't know what caused it. Maybe the ZoneAlarm people will see this.

The usuall cause for this Change is the Use of a Comercial Registry Cleaner, that often change settings in your Registry,and almost asuridly if you use the Reg Cleaner restore or backup feature..2.)
