To Reset the ZA Configuration Database try this:
ZA has incorparated a new way to Reset DataBase files so users don't need to go into Safe mode.
To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make
note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.
1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot
Report back with your results..

i completely uninstalled ZA-free and then reinstalled it as "run as administrator" and i still get the message requesting access to update, even though i have it set to manual update
i also downloaded the installation program (from ZA, as before) and installed it on a new vista machine - and i get the exact same problem as described above - that even though i have check update set to manual, ZA-free still tries to do an automatic update check
there is no doubt in my mind now that this is intentional from checkpoint, at least in this newest ZA-free version, even though it is misleading in giving the user the impression that this functionality can be controlled by setting it to manual
is there anyone who reads these forums that works for ZA in development that can comment on this?
are there any users or techs who can recommend a workaround?
is there anyone who does NOT have experience this?
is there maybe an earlier version which does not do this?
many thanks in advance
~~~~~~hi bagdadjeff and imu and all
did the above suggested "fix" work for you?
it didn't for me - i am sure there are many people with this problem, hopefully some have found a solution
somehow, my more recent comments on this thread were moved to a new thread:
though the issue seems to be the same issue (ZA not honoring manual update check setting) - i don't think there is a difference between ZA pro and the free version on this issue
anyway, not everyone experiences this issue as it requires that they first set "check for updates" to manual - and second, set ZA to alert them before making contact with ZA-Checkpoint
so even if everyone would have the same result (ZA asking to check for update multiple times a day even with manual check set), no one would know about it unless they happened to have enabled both of those settings
i am still hoping that someone who does have those setting may have found a solution or workaround - i tried the suggested solution to no avail - if it was xp, i would use sygate free instead
but with vista, the firewall choices are much more limited
fwiw, here is a screen shot of my recurring problematic pop-up:
sorry that I could not reply sooner:
no, it didn't work for me either. So I still have this problem. I'm hoping for the new version 9 of ZA free. And if the problem persists, I will simply choose another firewall solution.
