    Default vsutil.dll error BEFORE install

    Hi Guys,

I bought ZASS a while ago and have just reformatted my laptop. I re-downloaded the latest release for vista SP2. When I try to install this, Zone Alarm first checks for the necessary prerequisites...it is at this point that it tells me...

"Could not load the DLL library
    C:\Users\...\vsutil.dll.
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail"

I checked the event log and it says:

    Log Name: Application
    Source: SideBySide
    Date: 10/08/2009 18:34:25
    Event ID: 33
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: COLOSSUS-MINI
    Description:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\...\Local\Temp\081009183421\vsutil.d ll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",pub licKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",versio n="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
    "

    Any ideas or advice...?

I have redownloaded the file a few times and tried and tried again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Maybe you don't have Microsft Visual C++ runtime installed.

On my system (XP SP3, probably the same location in Vista) there is a folder at C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS

    x86_Microsoft.VC90.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.21022. 8_x-ww_d08d0375

(note the name matches the name, public key token and version in your error).

Check whether you have that or not. It contains the xxxx.90.dll files that I think it's complaing about.

I'm not sure which version of Visual C++ it comes with, though.

    Maybe this one:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

there is also an SP1 (link at bottom of that page) corresponding to
    C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC90.CRT_1fc8b3b9a 1e18e3b_9.0.30729.1_x-ww_6f74963e

From the file dates, maybe this one:

    i.e. later version
