Thread: npzonesb.dll---Trojan?

    Default npzonesb.dll---Trojan?

I did a deep scan today and ZoneAlarm "discovered" that one of its own files, npzonesb.dll, is a Trojan.

Is this a false positive? How do I know whether to delete it or not? What does it do? What would deleting it do to my installation?

    Hi Ken,

If you run another scan now, do you get the same detection?

    Please let us know.

Yes, the file is identified as a Trojan, but I made a mistake; it is not ZoneAlarm that identifies it, but NOD32.

So what is the file and why does it appear to be a Trojan?

please report to NOD. See their support forum.

Note that ZA AV, ZASS, ZAX do not play nice with many other security tools even if disabled. They may block its correct functioning including updates. For example, spyware doctor, spysweeper, trojan hunter, win patrol, PCtools Threat Fire, Mcafee, Norton, Symantec, Adaware, SpybotS&D, WinPatrol, AVG, Avast free, NOD, Kaspersky, Comodo, Rising, PC Doctor, MS OneCare and many others.

Thanks. All I wanted to know is whether npzones.dll was a legit file installed by ZA. I was hoping that someone here would know. I haven't received an answer, but I will assume that it is...

    Hi Ken,

To be honest I'm not sure about that.

But you can navigate to the file, right-click on it and click on Properties. Then go to the Details tab. If the file is described as being part of ZoneAlarm/ZoneLabs, then it probably is.

Maybe someone can shed more definite light on this.
