    Exclamation Fidbox Problem Status

    Greetings,

PROBLEM: Fidbox.dat is a large (>1.2 GB) and growing (approaching 8K fragments) problem on my system.

STATUS: I contacted Check Point Technical Support and received an acknowledgement that the problem exists and is recognized. It will be fixed in Zone Alarm Version 9.0. ("Our version 9.0 doesn't use fidbox and will be released in the near future, don't have an exact date at this time.")

The reply also mentioned that 9.0 is currently in beta test. However, a cautionary statement was included about using the beta version, as there is no technical support and the user should have system programmer level skills (registry edit, etc .... ).

    Regards,
    Stripeman

I too have a similar 'problem' on an older XP Pro machine. Defrag doesn't want to touch the file... I don't know to what extent it is harming performance or slowing bootup. Sure would like more info about it.

    Hi!

I think you can safely remove it in SAFE MODE or update your ZA to version 9.

to the Zone Alarm User Forum..

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

1.) there have been two Releases of ZASS since ZASS 8.0.298.035 ( 8.0.400.020/ 9.0.083.000) available via Manual download

2.) be advised that Beta Testing of 9.0.084.000 is still in progress so The "Check for Product Update" has not been turned on yet..

Here is what has been Fixed in Version 9.0 so far:

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite version 9.0.083.000
    • New Browser Security:
      • Advanced Download Protection:
        • Detects the latest zero-day threats in downloads that you initiate—before they reach your computer
        • Includes heuristic analysis and program check
        • Can run and analyze download behavior in a virtual environment if necessary
      • Spy site detection
      • Signature and heuristic phishing detection
      • Website safety check and rating

    • New unified anti-virus and anti-spyware engine:
      • Scans 80%-90% faster and combines anti-virus and anti-spyware into one scan
      • More advanced scan options– riskware, ADS, heuristic scanning, and more exception options
      • Additional on-access scan controls
      • On-access scanning now detects spyware

    • Program control features to stop advanced security bypass attacks:
      • Timing attack protection
      • Service control manager protection (not supported on 64-bit and Windows 7)

    • Other enhancements:
      • Many performance improvements
      • Reduced number of unnecessary alerts
      • Windows 7 32-bit ready (Free compatibility update to run on Windows 7 when it is released)
Note: To streamline in an age where web privacy controls are built into the most popular browsers and email attachment scanning is included in the major email applications, privacy controls and inbound MailSafe have been removed with this release.
The Automatic "Check for Update" Function will be turned back ON when Checkpoint is ready to distribute version 9.0
