    Default ZASS 9 unified antivirus/antispyware

Installed this last night over the previous version. Installed OK, let it keep prior settings. I don't see any slowing due to it. Seems to be running OK, updated the anti virus OK.

As for the anti spy-ware, I would rather see it as it was so I know its there, and I don't know where it updates the dat file to now. I only see the update box showing the anti-virus has been updated.

In the zonelabs folder in windows\system32 I see my old .dat files, these were labeled spyware0.dat, and spyware0.dat.zlbak for a couple old data files, and my newer one was spyware.dat.zlbak. I wasn't too sure what the deal was, but thought maybe the file got renamed somehow during install and that was why the anti-spyware module wasn't showing up in the main program.

Renamed the newest .dat file to spyware.dat in safe mode, than restarted to see what it would do. It didn't do anything, it didn't stop ZA from loading either, and didn't show anything about the anti spyware in the program either as it was before. But windows seems to say its on.

I'm just wondering now what .dat file is it using, and where does it put it now? cause like I said when you do a manual update it only shows the AV as being updated.

I think ZA needs to just keep the anti virus/anti spyware viewing the same so you know whats up.

    Hi!
moved in separate thread, the original thread was about ZAPRO and not ZASS.

Please note that ZA scanner antivirus/antispyware has been unified. Now it scan for both viruses and spyware at the same time. No need of two separate scans. Updates are also unified only one update.

Please note that modifying, deleting, removing, renaming ZA files may results in ZA corruption. I would recommend you perform a clean install.

    Cheers,

    I agree with Guru Fax..

Here is a list of what was changed in the New ZoneAlarm ZASS 9.0

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite version 9.0.083.000
    • New Browser Security:
      • Advanced Download Protection:
        • Detects the latest zero-day threats in downloads that you initiate—before they reach your computer
        • Includes heuristic analysis and program check
        • Can run and analyze download behavior in a virtual environment if necessary
      • Spy site detection
      • Signature and heuristic phishing detection
      • Website safety check and rating

    • New unified anti-virus and anti-spyware engine:
      • Scans 80%-90% faster and combines anti-virus and anti-spyware into one scan
      • More advanced scan options– riskware, ADS, heuristic scanning, and more exception options
      • Additional on-access scan controls
      • On-access scanning now detects spyware

    • Program control features to stop advanced security bypass attacks:
      • Timing attack protection
      • Service control manager protection (not supported on 64-bit and Windows 7)

    • Other enhancements:
      • Many performance improvements
      • Reduced number of unnecessary alerts
      • Windows 7 ready (Free compatibility update to run on Windows 7 when it is released)

Note: To streamline in an age where web privacy controls are built into the most popular browsers and email attachment scanning is included in the major email applications, privacy controls and inbound MailSafe have been removed with this release.

yeah OK, no problem, thanks for moving , but as I said to that other wise guy (not the orig poster) I was only answering the "generic" question that was asked about installing and what your thought was on the missing AS. (why would he even have asked that if he only had pro?)

Anyway, I been usin ZA for years, have done a lot of stuff with it and to it to make it run. Since way before check point took it over. I know what I'm doing believe me .

OK so if the updates are now unified into one, than those spyware.dat files are no longer used, and should have been deleted with the new version, I should have figured as much when all were labeled as spyware0.dat.zlbak, even the last update was labeled with the .dat.zlbak extension, which ment they were no longer being used by the program.

As for now I see what is now the norm, and have my answer. BTW those old files can be removed with no effect on the program, but like you, I wouldn't want "mom" messin around with the file or folder structure either lol , L8R

I too updated last night and so far no problems. The full scan so far, is quite a bit faster then before. One thing I noticed was that when ZA finished with the anti virus / spyware scan it said "Complete" but listed only 99%. Prio to update when scan finished it always said 100%. Also had the same question re: the updates, thanks for the answere.

Yes, must be a GUI glitch, I saw the same.
Don't worry. If you want you can report to ZA support so it gets logged as bug.

Question Re: ZASS 9 unified antivirus/antispyware

Re ZASS 9 unified antivirus/spyware, took all necessary precautions to avoid conflicts when updating from ZASS 8 - unticking load ZASS at startup rebooting and using cpes_clean uninstall application.
New installation was smooth but it now appears "Windows Security Alert Panel" informs me that Virus protection is ON via ZASS but Spyware and other Malware protection is OFF.

Windows Security Alert Panel recognized in ZASS 8 individual modules this may not be the case with a unified antivirus/spyware version if so is there a quick fix?.

    Hi!
not a ZA issue but a corruption of your repository. You may need to remove ZA reset the repository and install back ZA.

To reset the WSC see here

Always good to start your own thread rather than cueing up on an existing thread that is not dealing with repository issues. It would be also desirable you specify the version of the OS. Sounds like you speak about VISTA.

    Thanks!

hy man, dono but mine sees it OK, I use Vista Home prem sp2. I just installed 9 over my 8 with keep my prior settings. Have mine set to NOT start up with system, I start it only when I get ready to go on line, find that's works best for me due to the other items I have starting at designated times during system start. Only thing I see when my system starts up, before I click the ZA icon to start program is the red windows shield telling me the system may not be fully protected. But once I click the ZA icon and start the program it goes away

Checking the windows security center, under the malware protection, it says "Windows Defender and ZoneAlarm Suite Anti-Spyware both report they are turned on"
