I was being bugged by ZoneAlarm to install a critical update "ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2010 Software Update". I was using Extreme Security 8.0.400.020 on XP Pro (MCE) SP2, downloaded the software (110MB) at the link beginning http://promotions.zonealarm.com/secu...90_114_000&oem.... saved and ran it. I accepted most defaults including to use my existing configuration (which does not load ZoneAlarm on boot). No problems reported or observed. Reboots fine, as my configuration does not load ZoneAlarm on boot. Started ZoneAlarm, connected to the net, checked access to a couple of web sites, all OK; shutdown the PC. However, not once had I used my keyboard! The next time I needed to go online, I started ZoneAlarm, opened my email client, pressed a single key on the keyboard and had a crash-dump reset back to the BIOS. Fortunately XP recovered on last known good configuration. In fact, the guaranteed crash-dump-reset is to start ZoneAlam, start Notepad and press any 1 key on the keyboard. The keyboard is a Logitech wireless keyboard known to the Device Manager as Logitech PS/2 Keyboard with driver version 188.8.131.52. I have uninstalled the 'critical update' and reinstalled Extreme Security 8.0.400.020.
