Default ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 9.0.114: problems discovered

Running from October 1st,works fine (protection & alert) BUT:
I must update and scan manually: notwithstanding any effort and long experience with ZA products, my ZAES does neither update antivirus nor automatically carry out scanning when it should do.
Moreover: impossible to open and scan in safe mode (Protection is Up-UI initializing)
and also on access scan seems to be in error ("error" in action column)
Tried first to reset and then to clean with cpes_clean.exe and reinstall but still nothing has changed (clean reinstall on two machines, twice each machine)
Also every time I reinstall the dialog box for the Configuration Assistant doesn't work (blank) so that the installation becomes standard without preferences.

Any suggestion, taking into account I have downloaded three times and that problems are the same on two different PC ?
Copy of present message will be sent to Technical Service by mail since it is impossible for me to follow by chat.

Thank You in advance for Your kind cooperation

    Hi!
95% of the issue related to automatic updates and ZAX latest version are related to corrupted ZA settings. You may need to manually remove all ZA files (one by one) and ensure any left over from ZA is removed before installing ZA again. Of course, you should not restore any previous ZA settings.

ZA does not work in SAFE MODE. Malware scanner works only in SAFE MODE with NETWORKING. ZA Firewall does not run in SAFE MODE or SAFE MODE with Networking.

    Thanks Fax !
I already tried also that way , using "New, easier uninstall instructions 2006-08-29" and then deleting ZoneAlarm, ZoneLab, ForceField and CheckPoint keys from the registry: nothing to do ! There is not a list of all files related to ZA software and is now clear that new uninstaller is not sufficient to clean everything....
What is very strange and I am unable to undestand is the dialog box for the Configuration Assistant that doesn't work notwithstanding that every time I have downloaded again....

No idea why you have this problem now... you have been using ZA since long time.
What has chnaged up to now? Something must have been changed you have not realised

Malware infections? Corruption of the systems, over looking something?

Better you keep in touch with support. There is not much more we can say here.

In fact, quite strange. No problems with previous issue. Apart from Configuration Assistant (not working from the beginnig) I discovered other problems step by step (it is not usual to check if "on access scan" is not working).
Systems are clean (ultradeep + mbam), everything else working fine...

Where to find out list of files & keys to be deleted ? (I have saved all old instructions and collected lists of files&keys but this one is a new product, may be something else should be deleted...)
I am worried because, honestly speaking, I rely more in forum help...anyway I'll inform Technical Service
    Thanks again

Basically the same files except for a folder called "checkpoint" in "program files" folder. You can check for names and location of essential files to remove in:

    C:\Windows\Internet Logs --> installerXXXXXX.log
Where XXXXXX is the last date of install + other numbers.

For the rest, if you have a valid license, you need to report to ZA, it important also for the development of the software. Here we are just users.

Hi there, I am new to this forum. I just want to jump in and say that I am also having the same problems. I have been running ZA for years and just updated to the new 9.0v. I have to ask for updates and manually ask it to scan. Currently, I have it set to scan everyday and up date every 3 hours. I do not run the system 24/7 would that make a difference? Also I am currently running XP would that make a difference?
    Help.

    Hi!
try to reset the ZA settings, this way:

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Do NOT restore any previous settings

If the above does not work please report to ZA support. Link in my signature
