    Unhappy Nag Screen !!!

Hope I am in the right forum.

My OS is Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I installed "ZoneAlarm Free v 8.0.298.000" on 16.9.09. Straightforward. No problems.

About 10 days ago, immediately after boot up, I got a "nag screen" "pop up" headed "ZoneAlarm Security Options".

Basically, I am asked if I want to learn more about "ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite". I answer "No Thankyou" and the nag screen disappears.

Next time I start up the comp, the same thing happens.

As mentioned, this only started to happen a few days ago.

Is there any way I can stop this "pop up" popping up or, is it the price I have to pay for using ZA FREE?

I have used various versions of ZA FREE over the last 10 years without this problem.

It is becoming a REAL pain!

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Regards,

    Graham Newey

    Hi Graham,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I suggest you to turn off your Check for Updates from Automatically to Manually. This is the only I have found to stop this Nag Screen. Then if you want to check for any new versions, just turn it back on and check for any updates, then turn it back off again. But, this is your decision. Just trying to help you.

    Have a Great Evening!

    Dear SlyFox,

Many thanks indeed for your time and advice.

What a simple solution. Why didn't I think of that?! I'm going to try it right now!

    Thanks again,

    Dear SlyFox,

The bad news is that it didn't work!!!!!

I was so sure that you had "cracked" it.

So I'm still being "nagged"---what's new!

Anyone else out there who can help please?

    Sorry that did not work..

    Here is another possible explanation..

Sorry, The fact is that the FREE product does not provide Money for the 1000's of paid Man hour labor required to developing a New upgrade, Testing, Marketing and Distribution..

Nothing is Truly FREE, in this case ZA Free includes a Nag Screen to
Offer the FREE users a chance to Upgrade to a Paid Version to help Off-set the cost continue of providing the product you use for Free..

    Dear GeorgeV,

    Many thanks for your response.

You have,of course, confirmed my question/assumption mentioned in my original post.

I certainly can understand your point and appreciate being offerred "a chance" to upgrade. What I don't appreciate is being "offerred a chance to upgrade" EACH and EVERY time I boot up my computer.

I have other free software on my machine that doesn't bombard me with "offers" ad nauseum. In fact I don't have ANY other free software that takes this course of action.

Would just reitterate that I have used ZA FREE for many years without this problem. So why start doing it now?

It's a shame that the mnfrs can offer this free product but then not allow the user to use it unhindered.

Sorry for the outburst. I DO appreciate your basic point but still feel this is a bit over the top.

Thanks again for your time and trouble.

Sorry, if the Nag Screen is that much of a nuisance,
the Only other Solution I can think of, is try a "GOOGLE.COM" search for FREE Firewalls"

    Good luck..

Personally, I value the Data on my Computer too much to rely on any FREE Security Product..
