    Default Microsoft websites blocked

    Hi,

I am a new member of the forum and am not sure where this post would fit so I went for the general area.

I am running XP service pack 3, Avast 4.8 & Zone Alarm free Version 8.0.298.000. I have this setup on 2 computers that are running through the same router.

On one of the machines, I am not able to connect to any Microsoft website unless I disable Zone Alarm. Any other sites seem to work just fine. On the other computer, there is no problem.

Any help you can provide would be great.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Check your log alerts in C:\Windows\Internet Logs\ZALog.txt and open with notepad and see what's being block.

How do I read the ZoneAlarm log files? At this link :

Also the database could be corrupt.Try resetting this way.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Have no other information other than this.Never use the Free Firewall.

    Have a nice Day

    You're welcome

Hope you're able to resolve your issue.Out of suggestion other than the following.

You might want to take a peek at your " hosts file " for any malware entries.Just right click and click Open and select Notepad to view.

    Location : c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

You can Google hosts file.Lots of info if that's the case.

I keep hosts file lock myself.

Lock hosts file : Prevents your computer's hosts file from being modified by hackers through sprayer or Trojan horses. Because some legitimate programs need to modify your hosts file in order to function, this option is turned off by default.

    Have a nice Day
