    Default ZoneAlarm Extreme Security updates

I recently (on renewal of my ZoneAlarm licence) upgraded from Internet Security to Extreme Security. That seems to have gone OK. However, I am now receiving daily recommendations to update to Extreme Security 2010.

On following the link, instructions on the screen read:

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2010 Software Update Product updates are critical to stay protected against the latest Internet threats. Please choose from the following 2 options:
    1. ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2010
Download Free Update Now This update delivers:
Unified antivirus/spyware scanning engine Improved performance, including 80% faster scans Advanced Download Protection Windows 7 ready* 2. Add Hard Drive Encryption to ZoneAlarm
Extreme Security Upgrade Now for only $29.95 Hard Drive Encryption provides the following features:
Keeps your data and identity private Makes your data unreadable to unauthorized eyes Works silently in the background Same technology used by major corporations To download and install your update, please follow these easy steps:

    1. Click on the Download Free UpdateNow button above.
    2. Save the file to an easy-to-remember location on your hard drive.
    3. Double click the file on your PC to begin the installation wizard.

However, on saving the file and trying to run it (as per the above instructions), there is no filename / extension shown, and I am prompted to choose a program to run the file, so the installation wizard does not start. The same happens if I try this via overview / preferences in ZoneAlarm. I am currently running Extreme Security version 8.0.400.020.

Ainti-virus/spyware updates seem to be running OK.

It means the file is incomplete. Try again, do NOT use any download managers. Your ZAX version is very old, for security reasons you should update to the latest version.

Remember NOT to run any other security tool.

Think I've fixed this one now. It appears that the file needs to be saved as ZASPSsetup_91_008_001_en.exe . All seems to run fine after double clicking on that.

Not sure I follow the problem (unless you use firefox 3.5 that is not compatible with your ZAX 8) but good to hear it is resolved.

    Thanks, Fax.

Yes, I am running Firefox 3.5.5.

Having run the update, I now seem to be running ZAX 9.1.008.000 (plus Anti-virus/Anti-spyware engine version 8.0.2.42, AntiSpam version 6.0.0.2383 and Forecfield 1.5.53.4). Is that all now sufficiently current?

Thanks! Ok... Now I understand why you had problems with the file. ZA 8 is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.5

You may need to start fresh (reset settings) in case you see your ZA does not update the AV/AS automatically.

I've been monitoring automatic AV / AS updates, and those do NOT seem to have been happening (nor have scheduled scans). So, I've tried to reset ZAX, using the process that I'd noted you (Fax) had recommended elsewhere:

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

    Is that correct?

Thanks. Still no updates attempted / received automatically. I'll continue to monitor.
