Default ZA Security Suite, RarePacker.Multi.Generic explanation?

In using the latest ZA Internet Security Suite, it has reported a couple of RarePacker.Multi.Generic cases. I have searched the net with Google and I've hunted the Kaspersky website in the vain hope of finding a plain and simple explanation of what the **** this is and what it might do. I cannot find an explanation ANYWHERE !! Can anyone tell me where this highly secretive info is buried and why it should be so damn hard to find ??!!!

No, sorry, Sky Soldiers - I've read just about every one of the posts in this forum and they do *not* explain what RarePacker is or what it is supposed to do to computers as a virus - all these posts are rattling on about false positives.

I just want to find someone who will explain what it is supposed to DO ... and nobody is providing that simple explanation.

What does RarePacker do ???!!!!!! Where can I find this information ???!!!

    Hi!
just as the detection says. The file is packed with a rare packer (sort of compressor of the file - like ZIP). These packers are usually used by malware writers to compress and/or encrypt the executable, mutate the characteristic of the file and avoid signature based detection up to the next update.

I guess that must have answered lisha's question, but I'm still in the dark.

'These packers are usually used by malware writers to compress and/or encrypt the executable, mutate the characteristic of the file and avoid signature based detection up to the next update.'

So this is like the box the bomb came in but not the actual bomb itself?

Does it have uses other than in the creation of malware?

Would you expect to see it in...ahem...keygens and other not quite legal apps that were otherwise benign?

Yes you will but they also show programs that a written that are legal and not keygens as this virus. Zonealarm is not the only one doing this not even the last update for malwarebytes will show this.

I had this happen with a startup manager called CodeStuff Starter--legal app I'd used for years without incident, but there must be something in the recent version's code ZA didn't like...so yes to weestevie's question.
You can add the app to exceptions if you are sure of it, or find another that does the same thing...talking about startup managers and the like. I now use StartEd Lite since CodeStuff Starter wasn't picking up all the startup items in64-bit.
