Default Can't remove za8 file on vista

    vista32-sp1:
za free v8 install, won't uninstall. The uninstaller is broken, typical usual error we've all seen, I've been through this before. I want to manually uninstall it. I know what to do, don't need to repeat the file list for removal.

My problem is that I can't delete ANYTHING that was installed with za. This is a new problem -- I'm sure I have done this before on vista. I've tried everything I can think of, takeown gives me access denied. Changing ownership in file properties, access denied. I refuse to accept that there is no trick to delete a file. Microsoft is not that smart... but they only have to be smarter than me :+>

I've been working with Vista ever since it came out. Almost always, when I haven't been able to move or delete a file, it's because the file is in use.

Look for running processes that might be using these files in Task Manager, and stop the processes. Be careful with doing that, as stopping some critical processes can cause your PC to malfunction. I'm sorry to be offering such a "hit or miss" solution, but it's the only explanation I can think of for the troubles you're having. Good luck.

The problem is the file system. ZA8 was install with 'special permissions' with owner 'trustedinstaller'. I thought that in the past I was able to change owner to administrator, but I can't seem to do it now. Perhaps a security update to vista did this? So far, I can find no way to change the owner so I can delete the files. Perhaps someone here knows a way. There are no locks on those files, there are no ZA processes running, it is shutdown. Even the .txt files in the ZA executable directory are protected this way.

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

Whenever posting here- it is always advisable to list your:OS (XP SP 2-3 / Vista SP1-2 / Windows 7), your zonealarm product and it's version number , Brand of Computer and CPU.

1.) ZoneAlarm is Required to be Installed in using an Administrator Account, to insure that ZA can Protect your Computer anytime the Computer is turned on..

2.) For the same Purpose,ZoneAlarm Makes it fifficult to Uninstall while the Computer is Running, Unless you are Logged in as the Administrator that Installed Zone Alarm, to Prevent "HACKERS" from disabling your Firewall protection..

    parisology,
I ran into this once on a Vista 64bit - I see you indicating Vista 32bit. You might want to check out this tool, lockhunter here and here
