Default IE8 Crash on Amazon.com ForceField Issue?

Not too long ago I received an E-mail from ZoneAlarm stating how fortunate I was to be protected from a recent threat by ForceField virtualization. I was surprised to see that virtualization was not enabled. I don't know if it is not defaulted to enabled during installation or what caused that hole in my defenses.

I have since enabled virtualization and for many sites IE8 tabs close with no indication why. When I disable virtualization the same sites are fine. I re-enable virtualization and IE8 closes on those sites again. How do I know if this is some sort of protection or a ForceField virtualization bug? Either way it is very annoying to have no information about why a browser tab closes.

I have automatic updates enabled for Windows and Zone Alarm. If anyone is unsure what the latest versions are at the time of this post, they are included below.

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600

    Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702

    ZoneAlarm Extreme Security version 9.1.008.000
    TrueVector security engine version 9.1.008.000
    Driver version 9.1.008.000
    Anti-virus/Anti-spyware engine version 8.0.2.42
    AntiSpam version 6.0.0.2383
    ZoneAlarm ForceField 1.5.53.4

My machine is a Pentium D 3.2GHz with 2.0GB RAM.

    http://www.amazon.com/ closes.

Lack of any log seems to me to be a ForceField issue regardless.

    Hi!
the web site works perfectly fine here and defenitively not a general issue, otherwise we would be flooded by messages on a such common website

    Close all browsers
    Open ZoneAlarm
    Click Browser Security / Settings
    Click Advanced tab
Clear virtual data and click okay
Now turn Browser Security off and follow these steps here

Click Start / Control Panel / Internet Options
Click Delete / Delete Temporary Internet Files
    Security (Tab) / Default Level
Advanced (Tab) / Restore advanced settings

    Cheers,

The problem seems to depend upon what is on the site. The sites don't always just close but I can't see what ads or links are on the site when it just closes without any other information. Hanging IE8 would be preferable to just closing. Maybe then I could gather some information about the cause.

Have you tried to reset IE8 and ZA as suggested?
It may be related to corrupted plugin. E.g. flashplayer.

I often go to Amazon and I have no issue whatsoever.

    Additional thoughts:

    - check your Adobe Flash Player - new version ~ 10.0.42.34
    ________________________________________________
    - in IE8 - Manage Add-ons - should see 2 entires: Enabled
    > ForceField Toolbar
    > ForceField Toolbar Registrar
    __________________________________________________ ___

    - in IE8 - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing > make sure this box is checked ~" Enable third-party browser extensions* "
    __________________________________________________ _____
    - with IE8 - try without IE8's "InPrivate Browsing" - may conflict; you can use 'InPrivate Filtering/ SmartFiltering'
    _________________________________________________
    - there is a new Java update - Java 6 Update 17 - click here > http://forums.zonelabs.com/showthread.php?t=71709
    - again if you plan to update Java - you may do so with 'virutalization/ browser security' temporarily 'off' while you perform the update.

Most new pc/ laptops come with pre-installed security software.

Have you properly un-installed any previous security software before installing ZA Extreme?

If you have pre-installed *Norton or McAfee* security software - please see here for more info of using their special 'Removal Tool' <> it does help - click here > http://forums.zonelabs.com/showthread.php?t=39422
