    Default ZA blocking its own AV/AS updates

    The activity started on Monday or Tuesday 12/14-12/15/2009. ZA is blocking its own updates. I have watched as Manual AV/AS updates are performed, noted the servers, and one time the update will work and then it will not work for repeated attempts on the various servers. Installed the AV program update this morning---no change.

    I am using standard settings suggested time and again in this forum. I use no expert rules and block only 3 sites in Firewall/Zones that are known to me that I have blocked for years and have nothing to do with ZoneAlarm. No other AV/AS applications. I am a long-time user of ZA, but, quite honestly, this application has been on a downhill slide since CheckPoint took over.

    In the Firewall logs, the attempts to update AV/AS signatures, automatically or manually, are shown as "Blocked", Policy: Personal Policy, Rule: ExtBlockAll2.

    What is "Rule: ExtBlockAll2". What controls the rule? Some setting within ZA?

    Windows XP SP3 (current MS update applied)

    I too struggled with this "ExtBlockAll2" entry when trying to get my ZA update dats....... quite by accident I was finally able to figure out where it comes from.......

    I don't use IE as my browser so seldom open it - if I had I would have found the problem faster. The "ExtBlockAll2" goes away if you:

    [This is assuming you have a broadband connection]

    * Open Internet Explorer
    * Click on Tools
    * Click on Internet Options
    * Click on Connections
    * Click on LAN Settings
    * UNCHECK: "Use a proxy server ..."
    * CHECK: "Automatically detect settings ..."
    * Click OK
    * Click OK Again

    This took care of my difficulties updating ZA. Hope it will help others too.

    My setup:
    Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad T61 - 2.0GHz 4GB (3gb usable) 200GB HD Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU - 7200RPM 15.4" WSXGA+
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional - Service Pack 3 - Build Number 2600
    Foxfire 3.5.7 -- [IE 8 if you need that - "I" don't use it - but it's there]

    Zone Alarm Security Suite version 9.1.008.000
    TrueVector Security Engine version 9.1.008.000
    Driver Version 9.1.008.000
    Zone Alarm Browser Security1.5.53.4
    AntiSpam Version 6.0.0.2383
    Antivirus & Anti-Spyware engine version 8.0.2.42 DAT file version 1010453504
