Default Internet Connectivity Comes and Goes

    Windows XP Pro SP3

    ZoneAlarm Extreme Security version:
    TrueVector version:
    Driver version:
    Anti-virus engine version:
    Anti-virus signature DAT file version:999790816
    AntiSpam version:
    ZoneAlarm ForceField
    ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Scanner
    ZoneAlarm ForceField Anti-Phishing Database
ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Sites Database 04.040

ok so i upgraded from ZA-Antivirus to the ZA-Extreme Security today. i did a complete uninstall of ZA-AV and removed all registry entries.. installed the ZA-ES...

now. my connectivity comes and goes like every 10 minutes. browser will be open and page will be loaded but if i click a link it times out. also during this time i am unable to ping my router... its odd because as soon as i open up a new browser window, my connectivity comes back.. and theres absolutely no alerts or anything in my log file, and i have them all checked..

tried allowing TCP/UDP port 80, tried making making a new zone for my router....

    any ideas? very annoying.

have you tried to remove ZA with the ZA removal tool?

Who is managing the connection? If it is a third party software and not the OS then this may be the problem. Let XP manage the connection and not any other software.

Alternatively try the latest beta of ZA Extreme, it is very stable and fixes several reported issues. Here:

not using any 3rd party SW to manage it. cable modem -> Dlink-615 Router -> PC hardwired is my topology. my PC uses a static IP. my router is DHCP enabled and uses open DNS...

i did try one thing though. i disabled the ARP protection and havnt had any problems since.. would make since though since the router uses ARP for IP<->MAC resolution. if ZA was hiding either or it would make it difficult to communicate between the 2.

i will try using the removal tool again and doing a fresh install.

ARP protection will do it. I've seen it block connections entirely in v7 and v8. Just disable and don't worry about it. ZA knows very well who is who and what network it's on and all that.
