    Default Windows Defender

I am running Zone Alarm Security Suite 9.1.008.000 on XP Pro with SP2. Is there any reason I should be running Windows Defender at the same time? My machine is inordinately slow since Jan. 1 and I'm wondering if the two programs conflict or duplicate effort.

No, no reason to run together. Actually its more important you udate your OS (to SP3 + all patches) rather than running security tools. Running ZA or any other tool on untrusted platform will provide limited protection.

Check here for scanning your system for vulnerable software:

Also note that "windows defender" may be also a rouge software (=fake)unless been downloaded / installed directly from Microsoft.
