Unhappy After ZA alert I now have no http access, only https

Hi, first time here on the board and I hope someone can help me.

I have a Windows XP (SP3) desktop at home which has 3 separate login accounts and running ZoneAlarm 8. I ran into a virus/malware problem the other day that ZoneAlarm alerted right away. It was one of those fake security download popups. So I ran anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and everything seemed to have cleared up.

But now I can't get to any http sites (I'm using another machine to access this messageboard). I can get to https (secure) urls but not http. I've tried both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, same problem. Even more weird, if I login as another user on my computer everything is fine. For example, my wife can get to http sites from her Windows login on the same physical machine without a problem.

So I know I have connectivity, I know that it isn't a browser issue (having same issue with both IE and Chrome), I know that other users on the machine can access the internet without a problem but on my login I can't get to http sites. Weird!!

I've dug around on the internet and tried a couple of things and then someone suggested that ZoneAlarm may actually be part of the problem or may not have completely stopped the malware in time. I have no idea what to do and someone even suggested reinstalling Windows.

I would think the problem could be solved without going that route, correct? I'm no techie, but I just can't understand how IE or Chrome can get to an HTTPS site but can't get to HTTP. Is it a networking issue?

Can anyone please help? Suggestions? Thanks!

1.) Sorry for the Delay in Responding, But is is Hard to Diagnose your Problem,
without knowing If your Using the FREE version of ZA 8.0? if so them maybe one of the 3rd party Security Programs you installed to Complement the FREE Basic Firewall, may have Restricted the htpp;// acess to your account, and not to your wifes account..

2.) If your using one of the Paid versions of Zone Alarm (ZA Pro, ZA AV, ZA Suite, ZA Etreme) then it is Recomended that you Upgrade ZA 8.0 to the Current Supported ZA 9.1

3.) This Forum exist to allow Volunteer experienced Zone Alarm Users to help the Few Users who encounter a problem with ZoneAlarm and need to be guided in the right direction..

Whenever posting here- or Contacting ZA Tech Support, it is always advisable to list your:Windows OS (XP SP 2-3 / Vista SP1-2 / Windows 7 32-Bit/64-Bit), your ZoneAlarm product Type and ZA version number , Brand of Computer and CPU, is it a DeskTop or Laptop, List any other Security Programs installed.

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
