Default Computer Hangs after install of Extreme Security

I just bought ZoneAlarm Extreme Security. Running on Vista 32-bit. Have no other firewalls or antivirus programs.

After install, the hard drive is continually running. I am unable to open any programs and the system completely hangs once I have tried to open any program (including ZoneAlarm). I have done a complete uninstall (including /clean on the uninstall), deleted the previous download, re-downloaded the program, and reinstalled it. It continues to have this problem, rendering my computer unusable. The only way I can use my computer again is to uninstall the program. I was running ZoneAlarm Internet Security, but I removed it using the additional /clean command as described by the installation recommendation, prior to installing Extreme Security the first time.

Are there any other solutions on how to get it to work?

Update: I went to MsConfig in Safe Mode. There I disabled ZoneAlarm Forcefield in the services tab. Now everything runs ok. Is it ok to keep this off?

I would recommend you actually troubleshoot the issue with forcefield rather than disabled it. Forcefield is the BEST part of ZA Extreme. As you describe it, it is a conflict with something running at boot.

What are you running at boot that is NOT by Microsoft? Proprietary laptop software? Is it a laptop? Which brand?

Unless it is installed really in-depth you could troubleshoot the issue with MSCONFIG

    1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in search box in VISTA and click ENTER
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

How does it work? Still slow?

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

    Cheers,
