This is just a quick heads-up that the emergency security patch for Microsoft's Internet Explorer will be released tomorrow (January 21, 2009).

The update, rated critical for all versions of IE, will cover a remote code execution flaw that has already been used in targeted attacks against U.S. companies, including Google and Adobe.

According to Microsoft's advance notice, the IE patch affects all supported versions of Windows -- from Windows 2000 SP4 through to the newerst Windows 7.

The out-of-band update will follow the public release of exploit code into the Metasploit attack tool...

Microsoft isn't having an easy time of it these days.

In addition to the unpatched hole in Internet Explorer, a now published hole in Windows allows users with restricted access to escalate their privileges to system level – and this is believed to be possible on all 32-bit versions of Windows from Windows NT 3.1 up to, and including Windows 7. While the vulnerability is likely to affect home users in only a minor way.

Exclamation Re: Emergency Internet Explorer Patch 1-21-10

Just a little notice: after installing the IE patch on 1-21-10 - you will be getting a few ZA alerts concerned with this IE patch - you should "allow" these alerts.

And you should check ZA Programs for 'Internet Explorer' entry - will be reset with new " ? ? ? ? " and so you should adjust with your normal settings.
