    Question ZAES UI Disappearing

My User Interface (in the System Tray) is inexplicably disappearing. What I have to do is restart is by clicking on the executable I have on my desktop, but it's more than a little unsettling why this would happen. Additionally, I am not seeing any meaningful entries in the log files, or my Windows Event Viewer. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hi!

this is due to corruption of the ZA settings. ZA settings may be corrupted for several reasons:

    - Malware infections
    - Crash/hangs and unexpected restarts
    - Forced Shutdowns (improver shutdown)
    - Conflicts with other security tools or other software at boot.

    You should:

1st) Ensure you are running ZA on up to date system. Check here.
2nd) Ensure you are actually running an uptodate ZA. Here

Given that you give very little information on whatever you have and whatever is running I am force to assume and give you generic fix all suggestions. Next time be more specific, explain well the problem. Speak about your system, the software running, the OS, etc..... and you will get better suggestions!

    -----------------------------
First remove ZAX with the ZA removal tool (download on desktop and run as administrator):
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe

Double check that all ZA related files/folders are gone:

    1.) Restart your computer
2.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
3.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
4.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
5.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
6.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs --> ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
    possible.

    7.) Close this window
    8.) Click Start, My Computer
    9.) Double Click the C:
10.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
11.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
12.) Double Click the System32 Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.
    14.) Click Start, Computer
    15.) Double Click C:
16.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
17.) Double Click the Checkpoint Folder
18.) Right click onZAForceField folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.

    - Go to Start --> Run
    - Type %temp% and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them

20.) Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.

    - Go to Start --> Run
    - Type Prefetch and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them

    21.) Empty your recycle bin.
    22.) Restart the computer.

23.) ZA does not play nice with many other security tools. They may block its correct functioning including updates. For example, spyware doctor, spysweeper, trojan hunter, win patrol, PCtools Threat Fire, Mcafee, Norton, Symantec, Adaware, SpybotS&D, WinPatrol, AVG, Avast free, NOD, Kaspersky, Comodo, Rising, PC Doctor, MS Security Essential, AVIRA and many others. If you want to troubleshoot issues with ZA please remove these tools (not enough to disable) and install back (if you really need) only after you see your ZA is working as it should.

24.) Double check you have really removed all other security tools by running this utility
    http://www.appremover.com/

25.) Check the system for malware. Check with MBAM and SuperAntispyware. See links here:
    http://forums.zonealarm.com/showthread.php?t=70448

26). Clean your system and registry with ccleaner.com
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

    27). Re-download the ZAX installer
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...SPSetup_en.exe

28). Install with default settings do NOT alter them. After re-boot go to ZA antivirus/antispyware and 'Update Now' and do not restore any previous ZA settings.

    Cheers,

    I agree with Guru Fax,

If you provide only Limited Gereneralized information, we can only Guess at what might be wrongs on a Generic type Computer..

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

Whenever posting here- or Contacting ZA Tech Support, it is always advisable to list your:Windows OS (XP SP 2-3 / Vista SP1-2 / Windows 7 32-Bit/64-Bit), your ZoneAlarm product Type (Free,Pro,AV, Suite,Extreme) and ZA version number (7.0,8.0,9.0,9.1), Brand of Computer and CPU, is it a DeskTop or Laptop, List any other Security Programs installed.

Having said that, here is the specific information that you have suggested forum members provide. My main home network host is a Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop with a Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz, 4BG of RAM, wired Ethernet connection to this host behind a DLink h/w FW/Router, which is behind a Verizon router, running XP Pro w/ SP3, ZAES 9.1.008.000, accompanied by ThreatFire, TH Guard, System Mechanic System Guard, and PeerBlock. I also run several other anti-malware and system tools, but on an as needed basis (not set to run at Windows startup or to monitor).

    How's that, guys?

    Hi!
I am very aorry but I had to removed some offtopic remarks. Not really helpful. Further offtopic remarks will be removed without notice.

I am sorry to say but with your setup I am surprised you have not been running into troubles with ZAX. TH guard may conflict with ZA as well as Threatfire. There is much overlap and redundancy that I don't know what to suggest you.

As per point 23, you have to remove all of that and start clean. Most of what you use is not really needed. System Mechanics does more harm than resolve problems. Just use ccleaner. Peerblock really not needed.

You can run safely with ZAX only, its just a matter of mastering your tools rather than piling up tools.
You will also enjoy a faster and more responsive system.

Sorry if I have no further suggestion to resolve your issue.

    Thanks,
    Fax

Why Corrupt a Good Security Suite with lots of Conflicting 3rd party security Software..

Adding Other Compeeting Software Results in Less protection, not More Protection..

NOTICE: Please note that ZASS and ZAXS do not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled).

To troubleshoot ZASS/ZAXS issues removethe other Security programs and (if you can't live without the other Security programs - Not Recomended) - Only re-install them once you see that ZA works as it should.

For example, the Following programs do not work well with ZoneAlarm, Kaspersky (KAV) or (KISS),Norton/Symantec, McAfee,AVG, Spyspweeper, NOD32, Spyware Doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotSearch & Destroy, PC tools Threat Fire, any other Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, Registry Guard or locking tools, etc...
