Red face Anti-Spam/Junk Mail filter crashes Outlook 2007

Running XP SP3 + latest version Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite (ZASS) V9.1.8. Since upgrading Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 (Oct 2009), add-in: sonicwall anti-spam desktop (mlfoshim.dll) crashes Outlook 2007. Must disable Sonicwall add-in (mlfoshim.dll) to start Outlook 2007. Have not had the Junk Mail Filter since the upgrade. Tried all fixes from Check Point tech support chats and nothing fixed it. Feb 2010 - escalated to Check Point Escalations Dept. Help!

Welcome to the Zone Alarm User Forum..

Sorry but ZA Customer and Tech Support do not Monitor this User Forum..

This Forum exist to allow Volunteer experienced Zone Alarm Users to help the Few Users who encounter a problem with ZoneAlarm and need to be guided in the right direction..

I have Windows XP SP3 with ZASS 9.1.008.000 and Outlook 2003 upgraded to Outlook 2007 working good for me..

What I think may have happened in your case may be that before Upgrading to Outlook 2007, ZASS (SonicWall) configureation was Configured for Outlook 2003 and was Still up and Running when you installed the Outlook 2007 upgrade??

This may have Corrupted the ZA Database..

Here is a Fix to Reset your ZA Database that should Allow ZASS (SonicWall) to Recognise the New Outlook 2007..

*** Make sure3 that Outlook is shut down..

ZA has incorparated a new way to Reset DataBase files so users don't need to go into Safe mode.

To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Please Post back here with your Progress Report

Hey GeorgeV - OK will do & give it a whirl. Many thanks for your reply. Will post my results back to this thread. So you are not related to Check Point Solutions; but an end-user correct? Regards, Jim.

Not sure if this is relevant, but another user is upgrading from Outlook Express to Outlook 2003 and had similar questions. The problem may have started when the default email and newsgroup client was changed with the outbound and junk email filter still turned on in ZA.

I think the key is turning off the Outbound MailSafe and Junk Email Filter options in ZASS before changing the email program defaults. Then, turn the 2 options back on in ZASS, then, start Outlook 2007 last. You should see the junk email folders added when Outlook 2003 is opened and the junk email toolbar, which will give you a visual indication that ZASS is set up correctly.

As GeorgeV suggested, now that you are in this current situation, resetting the ZA database may be your best option.

If you don't think this applies, then please disregard my post.

    GeorgeV,
    1. Tried your suggestion - 6 steps to reset the ZA database files and still NG. Outlook 7 crashed when I re-enabled Sonic Anti-Spam/Junk Mail filter (mlfoshim.dll).

    2. Now I remember trying these same 6 steps, as per a ZA tech chat back in Aug 2009, and still NG.

    3. From Feb 19, 2010 - ZA Escalations Dept:
    "Mr. Tobin
Sonicwall the makers of our anti-spam module looked at your logs and there was not enough information to determine the issue.
They have requested the following from your PC. This info should be harvested after you experience the Outlook crash.
Can you gather this data and Zip all the files up and reply to this message with the zip attachment.
    - -----------------------------
Could you please email us a minidump file (*.dmp) if any, and log files (*.log)? You can find the dump file and log files from ASD installation folder and user data folder. For example, the default standalone ASD installation folder is

    "C:\Program Files\SonicWALL\SonicWALL Anti-Spam Desktop"
and the user data folder is
    "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\MailFrontier"

    Thanks
    Ron Devine
    Escalations dept"

    4. I do not have these directories that Ron Devine indicates:
    "C:\Program Files\SonicWALL\SonicWALL Anti-Spam Desktop"
    and
    "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\MailFrontier"

    Here are my directories:
    "C:\Program Files\Sonic"
    and
"C:\Program Files\SonicWallES". This is an empty directory created Sat July 28, 2007.
    5. What directories do you have?

    6. BTW, I was a very early user of MailFrontier before Check Point/ZA apparently acquired them. Because I ran out of updates from MF. I was forced then to use CP/ZA and until Outlook 2007 have been very happy with them.

    7. Found a log txt file named ASD_OT in: (NOTE: references to Outlook 2003?)
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\MailFrontier.
    Here are the contents:
