Default Domain inaccessible on one computer but not on another

I have two computers at home, one a desktop and the other a laptop. Both access the same ISP, both have XP, and both have ZoneAlarm Free on them.

However, recently, on the desktop computer, I have been unable to access the rapidshare.com domain or any pages of it while on the laptop I have no problem. Specifically, when I hit a link to a rapidshare page or type in www.rapidshare.com and hit the enter key, I get that generic IE page with the following heading at the top: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage."

I've checked the hosts file on the desktop, and rapidshare.com doesn't appear there.

Granted, this might not be a ZoneAlarm problem, but I'm at a loss for ideas. Any suggestions?

    Many thanks.

I haven't used ZA free in a very long time, but have you tried disabling (turn off ZA load at startup and reboot the PC) ZA free firewall temporarily and then see if you can get to rapidshare? That would quickly determine if ZA free is causing the problem or not.

Is the WinXP built-in firewall turned off?

What version of IE are you using - 8?

Have you tried starting IE with no add-ons?

I had a similar problem on an old Windows 98 PC without ZA ( it was loaded with AVG free). I think your problem is related to updates and not ZA... probably the machine online the most is getting regular updates from Windows and ZA while the other is not. I just put a new hard drive in my regular machine with XP and found out I had several yrs worth of updates and newer versions of Media Player to download before things would run right... I suspect you need a newer version of IE, or at least updates to the one you have.
