    Unhappy Trojan.Win32.Vilsel.utc

    Two issues (possibly related)

    I looked back through the last 10 pages of the Malware section, but did not find where anyone else has this issue.

    1. On a scan a few minutes ago, I found a number of failed scans listed mostly in logs. Assuming perhaps the logs were "open" and not available for scan --- still, I went into the Quantine section and found 11 entires for Trojan.Win.32.Vilsel.utc. There was a notation that "this may be repariable in a future update" (not real assuring.......that I'm operating in a safe computer environment.

    About 5 weeks ago I ran into the same issue. My action was to "delete", then turn off system restore, shut computer down; reboot in 10 mintues. All appeared to be well, except today, "It's Back!" At that time I could not find much informationi on this Trojan other then it appeared to be "new" as of March 5th. No idea where it came from....but first appeard on my system Mar 5, 2010. Any thoughts on how to permanently get rid of this appreciated.

    Second issue is I've noticed the "on-access scan" continues to fail. Thought I had read this was a software issue that was being reviewed--- maybe not. How can I fix this???

    Thank you!

    Talking Re: Trojan.Win32.Vilsel.utc

    My apologies to the Forum. I just noted there WAS a thread on the first part of my query (Trojan.Win32.Vilsel.utc) from Splinterd 1 on March 9th. I've read FAX's reply and will try the options. Recently had cateract surgery, so obviously eyesight is not back to par yet by missing Spinterd1's entry.

    Sorry --- I had previously posted the information you refer to in the original post.
    Here it is again --- still wondering about the Access Scan failure --

    I'm Sorry, I guess I missed the part where you said Windows OS (XP SP 2-3 / Vista SP1-2 / Windows 7 32-Bit/64-Bit), Brand of Computer and CPU, is it a DeskTop or Laptop, List any other Security Programs installed.

    Let's see if we can be more clear:

    Windows Media XP Professional w/SP3
    Gateway 831 GM PC
    2GB RAM
    32 bit Intel Pentium 4 Processor 630 with Hyper Threading Technology operating at 3.0 GHZ
    800 MHZ FSB, 2M L2 Cache

    NO other anti-virus product installed -- Only Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite

    I have been using Zone Alarm products for about 7 years now ---

    Try this..

    Malware Clean-up Guidance
    NOTE: the steps below works only if you are on the latest versions of ZA (version 9). If you are not, please update.
    Try to perform a full Antivirus/Antispyware scan but in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.

    1. Set ZA Antivirus/antispyware to "Ultra Deep Scan" under the advanced options of the ZA antivirus/antispyware tab (scan modes);
    2. Reboot in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING;
    3. Manual run ZA (ZA firewall will be OFF but Antivirus/Antispyware will be functional);
    4. Run a full ZA AV/AS scan;
    5. Reboot in Normal Mode
    6. Set ZA Antivirus/Antispyware back to Normal

    How to start in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

    If the above fails try to clean your system with:

    A. Download update and scan with MBAM
    WARNING: Some malware will block the download of this software, rename the installer to a random name before saving and running
    B. Use the superantispyware online cleaning tool --> Here or download, update and scan with superantispyware FREE
    WARNING: Some malware will block the download of this software, rename the installer to a random name before saving and running
    C. Download update and scan with A2 free

    Still Problems? Try the bootable CD fromDrWeb

    For a final check that your PC is clean run Hitman Pro cloud scanning (the scanner is free not the cleaning)

    if ALL the above fails please post your Hijackthis log to BleepingComputer or SpywareHammer

    Once you have cleaned the system please remember to purge the windows system restore points. You may be reinfected otherwise.
    - Disable system restore (How to disable windows SYSTEM RESTORE);
    - Reboot the PC
    - Re-ensable system restore
