Question RESOLVED: Continual HDD Avctivity Since ZAISS upgrade.

    Hi,

Since installing ZAISS 9.1.507.000 a few days ago I have noticed, amongst other things, continual HDD activity (c.250,000 i/o read/writes per hour). I have checked the debug level which is set to OFF, and have uninstalled and reinstalled clean with no effect.

Is anyone else seeing this sort of disk activity since upgrading?

    Cheers,

    Yes, already reported here:
    http://forums.zonealarm.com/showthread.php?t=73806

I would suggest you also report to support. More reports more likely this issue will be looked at faster.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

    Just to give an update...

    1) Also found problem with Crypt32 (Event Ids 8 & 11) solved by changing WMI settings in ZA Program Control to green ticks.

    2) HDD activity seems linked to svchost process. Tried to isolate which service but to no avail.

Have now rolled back to ZAISS 9.1.008 and restored former settings.

Calmness has once again broken out within my PC.

    Regards...

I am seeing the same issue - constant disk access and updating of internet logs. Also reported to ZA support. Never had to roll back before, but will have to now, as I need my computer.

I don't know if this information will help or not, but I took a screen shot of Task Manager sorted by I/O Reads, highest to lowest.

vsmon.exe (2nd in the list) and zlclient.exe (6th in the list) are both ZA processes. Top of the list is lsass.exe which is a Windows process.

I run WinXP Pro SP3 which is current with all critical Microsoft updates.

Sorry, not a PC expert, just to clarify, when people talk about "Rolling Back" to the previous version, would this mean, "a complete Uninstall....and then a Re-install of the previous version?
    Thanks for your patience

    Swifty

If your don't like to Gamble on the results and Take a few Shortcuts..

The a Clean uninstall and Re-Install is the Safest method..

The simplest procedure is to :

2.) Before you Uninstall your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview - Preferences tab)

3.) Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory

4.) Now use the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool: Click here http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe

Save to desktop, right click and "run as administrator" This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions. (you can un-install without net connections)

5.) Now Install the Previous Za version (clean) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..

*** NOTICE: Please note that ZASS and ZAXS do not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled).

I also experienced continual HDD activity after upgrading to ZAISS 9.1.507.000. It drove me nuts, but it's a short drive for me anyhow. It was very annoying though.

I went back to the previous version and all is quiet again. I know tech is aware of this but should I report it also, and if so, where?

    thanks
