Angry ZoneAlarm Extreme Security (ES)? allows download & execution of Eicar virus!

Upon purchase of any new anti-virus product I like to drive over to eicar.org to verify that on access / download scanning is really working.

Having installed ZA ES (Extreme Security)? 9.1.507.000 with all the latest updates including the ZoneAlarm Toolbar with Browser Security, setting all firewall and program control settings to max or high, and verifying on-accessed scanning was enabled, not only is ZA ES allowing the download but also the execution of this test virus in all standard and encrypted forms!

ZA ES even gives the following message: 'Advanced Download Protection has determined that this file is safe!'

The only way ZA ES will detect this test virus is if I manually scan the saved folder!

This has never happened before since testing some freeware/shareware anti-virus tools in the Windows 3.1 / 95 days!

    WTF?

Can't reproduce the issue here. Do you download the file via https?
If yes, its normal. Encrypted files will be checked on access (when you open them). You are perfectly safe.

If instead you don't get any warning when downloading with http then you have a problem.

Also not that .com files (MSDOS) will not run correctly in VISTA/Windows 7. You will need to re-name the file as .exe
