Default Checking for Updates - automatically

My ZoneAlarm installation info is as follows, I hope this is sufficient information for someone to assist me with my question, if not please let me know:

ZA Extreme Security - version 9.1.507.000
OS – XP Home, installed on one desktop computer
    First time installed – 4 May 2010

Checking for anti-virus AND anti-spyware updates which enable me to protect my data on my PC.

Even thou I have set my Overview / Preferences / Check for updates to Automatically - it doesn't do it at all! I have to check for the updates manually, then most times it downloads and installs the updates - my question is why doesn't it do it automatically? Your help is appreciated – thanks.

You are a bit short of information. ZA version number, type, OS used, first time install? Licensed version? Etc.. etc.. etc... Updates? Where? Under Preferences? Or under the advanced option of ZA antivirus/antispyware? One is related to product updates and the other to antivirus updates.

Note that updates to antivirus are released every 30 to 60 minutes. It is common to always find updates if you check manually.

With such little information posted I can only suggest to start with a reset:

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

After re-boot go to ZA antivirus/antispyware and 'Update Now' and do not restore any previous ZA settings.

Monitor ZA for a couple of days to see if it will update (little arrow near the taskbar)

    Cheers,
