Exclamation **UPDATED FIX** Free firewall freezes computer -> Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)

The new free firewall freezes my laptop,
have to use the power switch to turn it off and restart.
have tried several clean installs (using the ZAcleanup tool to uninstall), but no luck
    using Win 7 Professional.
think it still has problems co-existing with MS Security Essentials.

Out of couriosity weren't you using ZA Extreme?
Were you getting the same freezing?

Have you tried to boot the machine only with ZA and standard services?
There may something else than MS essential that conflicts with ZA. ZA has been reported to work correctly with MSE.

1.) Type MSConfig in the search box and click ENTER
2.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
3.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    4.) Click the Services Tab
5.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
6.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField (if present), and click OK.
    7.) Restart your computer

How does it work? Still freezing? No? Now try to turn on MS essential.

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

    Cheers,

It was freezing my desktop (a couple months old, running Windows 7) since Wednesday morning. I spent most of the evening in a great deal of frustration trying to get to the bottom of this.

Even when I did clean reboots, as suggested by Microsoft, by shutting down services/start ups the problem still persisted. On a hunch, I unisntalled ZoneAlarm and the freezing stopped and for now I'm using the built-in Firewall.

And I am guessing that perhaps it's not liking MS Security Essentials.

    Thanks for your response,
yes, I have a 3 user licence of ZA extreme,
however uninstalled it on one of notebooks beause of continous HDD activity and frequent loss of ZA settings.

Then installed MS Security essential instead, until ZA resolves some of the issues with the current version.

Tought I give the new firewall a try as well,

Anyway will now try your recommendations and let you know results

I am 99% sure that's what it is, did the same.
tried it before with my licenced version of ZA Extreme as well, same problem,
uninstalled Security Essential and it works,

Have perfomed at least 10 clean installs without resolving this issue

Same problems developed here on two computers. Both froze up on me this morning and one had done it yesterday. Disappointed.

    Hi!

try to exclude running ZA processes from MSE. Like zlclient.exe, vsmon.exe, forcefield.exe and see what happens.

    Hello all,

This problem is a Microsoft bug.

Microsoft said It will be fixed in Win7 SP1.
We were not able to get re-distribution rights for the fix from Microsoft but you can download a patch from them to fix this issue before the public release of Win 7 SP1.
