Default ZA Free 9.2.044.000 BSOD Vista64SP2

I installed the new ZoneAlarm Free 9.2.044.000 at my Windows Vista Business X64 SP2 (with updates) and it crashes with a BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER. I also run MS Security Essentials.

Do I need the mentioned MS patch KB979278 to fix this?

The computer crashes when I log into Steam. The computer is not crashing with PC Tools firewall instead of ZoneAlarm, but I like the functionality of ZA better. (if it runs stable of course)

Yes that fix is for Vista along with Win 7 users also.

First uninstall ZA before installing both of these hot fixes from Microsoft.

MS has a bug in there OS with MSE and ZA on the same system and this patch has been proven to fix that OS bug.

There is also another patch from MS to fix other issues with ZA and its also for Vista along with Win 7 too. You should apply this patch also!!

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I installed the MS patches. let's hope it helps.

Idea: What about including these MS patches with the ZA installer so Windows is automatically updated? Otherwise many clueless users will get disappointed with the just downloaded ZA and get BSODs.

I wish we could include the hotfix but MS does not allow redistribution.

Please let us know if it helps or not.

I installed both fixes yesterday and today I ran ZA without any glitch. No BSOD whatsoever. It seems to work great so far.

    Hmm,

After 2 days - and two Windows 7 64-bit reinstalls ( Grr) - I finally tracked down threads about the cause of my problem. I had thought it was a hardware problem with a new Laptop, and was on the point of returning it to the vendor. Lucky I found out in time...

Now, I've tried installing one hotfix 979278, then installed ZA Free. System BSOD again after a short while. Okay, uninstall ZA Free.

Then I tried both hotfixes and re-tried ZA Free (multiple reboots between each step) BSOD when rebooting after ZA Free install!

Sorry - I've used ZA for years, but I can't seem to solve the Win 7 64-bit issue with the given Hotfixes.

I hope something comes up in the near future - I really like ZA!
