Thread: Repeated loss of service

    Default Repeated loss of service

My Vaio laptop runs on XP Home with free ZA 9.2.044.000 and Avast free. With this configuration, I ran trouble free for a long time, but then tried pastures new and have now come back.

Without ZA all is fine, but with ZA I get constant entries in the Windows Event Log as follows:

    1. Warning - Event ID 1003 - DHCP server unable to renew network address;
    2. DHCP error - Event ID 1000 - Lease lost to IP address; and
    3. Event ID 8033 - browser forces an election on network, because master browser was stopped.

My ZA was installed normally, and my connections (wired and wireless) are shown in the Internet Zone. There are only the two entries in "zones".

I have been trying for a couple of weeks now, to prevent these hourly interruptions to my service, but can't find a solution.

    Help please!

Sounds like your DNS and DHCP are not trusted. You have to add them to the ZA trusted zone and ensure your ZA trusted zone is set to MEDIUM and not HIGH.
Are you connected to a router/modem? 192.168.X.X. address? Set it directly to trusted instead of internet like you have now.

Thanks and I have the information. Do I add to zones as IP addresses, or should they be in one of the other categories?

I have a direct cable connection at present and my Trusted Zone is set to Medium.

    Hi!
yes, you add the IP addresses to the ZA firewall zones as TRUSTED (ZA firewall section --> zones).
Usually the ZA log section will give you hints on what is blocked. Right click on the entry and "add" to the trusted zone.

    Hello again

I have placed the DHCP and both DNS IP's in the trusted zone. However, having waited to see what happens, I see the same old warnings appearing again.

I also notice there is no mention of any IP from my DHCP or DNS in the ZA log.

Is there anything else I can try?

    Many thanks.

Next test is to add as trusted the network (wired and wireless) to see if this makes any difference in windows logs.

(note that you should reboot your systems after having added the IPs).

Thanks again. Do you mean I should end up with the network in both zones at the same time?

Not sure I understand. I try again, I was suggesting to set your network (currently as "INTERNET" in ZA firewall zones) as "TRUSTED" to see if the error disappears.

You go to ZA firewall section --> Zone --> click on the entry(ies) that have 'internet' a drop down menu should appear giving you the option to change it to 'trusted'.
