Also here below the step by step procedure to add your DNS/DHCP to the ZA firewall zone:

    1. Click start --> Go to Run and type in command and hit 'ok', and in the command then type in ipconfig /all (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314850) then press the enter key. In the returned data list will be a line DNS and DHCP Servers with the IP address(s) listed out to the side. Make sure there is a space between the ipconfig and the /all, and the font is the same (no capitals).
    2. In ZA on your machine on the Firewall, open the Zones tab, click Add and then select IP Address. Make sure the Zone is set to Trusted. Add the DNS IP(s) .
    3. Click OK and Apply. Then do the same for the DHCP server.
    4. The localhost (127.0.0.1) must be listed as Trusted.
    5. The Generic Host Process (svchost.exe) as seen in the Zone Alarm's Program's list must have server rights for the Trusted Zone.
Plus it must have both Trusted and Internet Access.

    More info at:
I'm having trouble with my Internet connection while ZA is running

Smile Re: Repeated loss of service

I've put everything in the Trusted Zone and waited. My ISP licence is for less than an hour, so now it's past time to renew......and it has, without the usual warnings and momentary loss of connection.

Still no mention of my DHCP or DNS in ZA logs. The Firewall log is blocking absolutely everything, so am I OK with the Trusted Zone from now on?

I am very grateful for your prompt and helpful advice.

Well, I should be there to see...really difficult to judge remotely

Usually its not good to have the direct internet connection set as trusted, it should be internet but I am really don't know what your ZA zones are and if in reality what is listed is internal addresses rather than internet addresses.

Please try to copy paste your ZA zones in here (all infomation) so I can see if it is OK or not or suggest changes.

    Thanks.

I can send a cropped image of my zones, but can't find the 'Manage Attachments' button which the FAQ says is below this message pane. Help again please!

    OK here we go:

Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection - Packet Scheduler Miniport - IP Address/Site XX.X.XX.XXX/255.255.255.0 - Entry Type: Adapter Subnet - Trusted Zone

    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection - Packet Scheduler Miniport - IP/Site 192.168.1.101/255.255.255.0 - Entry Type: Adapter Subnet - Internet Zone (works OK)

DHCP - IP Address/Site XX.X.96.1 - Entry Type: IP Address - Trusted Zone

    DNS1 - IP Address/Site XXX.XX.XX.198 - Entry Type: IP Address - Trusted Zone

    DNS2 - IP Address/Site XXX.XX.XXX.8 - Entry Type: IP Address - Trusted Zone

Localhost - IP Address/Site 127.0.0.1 - Entry Type: IP Address - Trusted Zone

Wireless works OK in Internet Zone. The main connection works OK in Trusted Zone.

Wireless connects to a different ISP than main connection. DHCP assigns a one week licence period to Wireless, but my main ISP assigns only a 50 minute licence. I have spoken to the ISP and they are "investigating" and say the licence should be at least a week or usually two.

Firewall log reports all entries as Personal Policy and ExtBlockAll2.

I hope this info will enable you to solve my problem. Thanks again for all your help.

    Hi!
Looks OK except the first entry, it should be internet instead of trusted. The address is not internal. If the IPs of DNS/DHCP are correct and valid you should not receive any blocking when renewing the IP.

I will remove your public IPs for privacy reasons.

Thanks for reviewing this. I will put the first entry back to Trusted and put up with the service interruptions until my ISP gets back to me on my DHCP query. It looks as if that's where the problem lies.

I'll report back. Many thanks again.

    You're welcome!
You mean: the first entry back to Internet?

Yes, cross check that the DNS/DHCP are the right ones.
Btw, Wireless connection 192.168.... can be set safely as trusted. Its an internal IP and not facing internet.

Yes, sorry - Internet for sure....only had one drink - honest! All details are correct according to ipconfig.

    Kind regards.
