I understand your frustration but we are all users here.

A new ZAfree has been announced in the next one or two weeks. I don't know if it will address your problem.

Of course you are free to test other products if you are not currently happy with ZA

    Thanks,

Erm, I noticed in your log, that ZA blocked an OUTGOING package. Its's quite unusual that your PC sents a package to the MS-server when you go on that page. So, it's good that ZA blocks it. Maybe some malware has sneaked on your PC, hijacking the address ? Just a thought.

Good point! Once you have confirmed is not malicious try to add the blocked IP to the firewall trusted zone to see if there is any difference in performance once the IP is allowed.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I've scanned with Avast and Malware bites and nothing malicious shows up.

    I've added:
    64.4.31.252, wwwbay3vip.microsoft.com
    207.46.19.254, wwwbaytest2.microsoft.com
    207.46.170.10, wwwtuk2vip.microsoft.com
    207.46.19.254, wwwbaytest2.microsoft.com

and tested, but it tried to contact 206.46.146.10 instead, so added that to the list. after a reboot it tried 65.55.21.250, so I had to add that to the list too.

    The final list is:
    64.4.31.252, wwwbay3vip.microsoft.com
    207.46.19.254, wwwbaytest2.microsoft.com
    207.46.170.10, wwwtuk2vip.microsoft.com
    207.46.19.254, wwwbaytest2.microsoft.com
    207.46.19.254, wwwbaytest2.microsoft.com
    207.46.146.10, beta.windowsupdate.com
    65.55.21.250, wwwco1vip.microsoft.com

After adding all these IE 8 behaved normally. Opening quickly and opening new tabs quickly. Not sure I'm happy leaving these computers in the trusted zone though.

After removing them from the trusted zone again. IE8 was still operating normally. It seems IE8 only needs to contact Microsoft once the first time it's started. I'll report back what happens after a reboot.

I've rebooted with the above IP addresses removed from the trusted zone and IE 8 still works normally. I'll continue to monitor it to see if the problems return. If they don't, it would seem that IE8 only needed to contact Microsoft once.

Glad to hear that the issue seems under control!
I have revised the thread title accordingly
