Thumbs down PC takes 15 minutes to boot if my internet isn't active

This week I have installed version 92_044_000_en to upgrade version 80_298_en.

The upgrade was successful and working well.

Two days after the upgrade, I had a great problem. It was taking up to 15 minutes to boot. The problem was that ZA wasn’t loading properly. After reinstalling and a clean install I found out that it was because my internet wasn’t active. That is, if there is no internet connection, ZA doesn’t load and the PC takes 15 minutes to boot. I have uninstalled version 92_044_000_en and made a clean install of version 80_298_en and it works fine.
I think that version 92_044_000_en looks for an allowed programs table on ZA site when it starts, and if there is no Internet connection, ZA doesn’t load and the PC takes 15 minutes to boot.

It may be due to a specific firewall setting you have applied. Try to reset the ZA settings and keep the defaults to see you still experiencing the same.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Do not restore any previous setting. Keep the default ones.

If you have still problems try to boot your PC only with ZA and standard XP service/programs (to check for conflicts between programs), this way:

    1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField (if present), and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

How does it work? Still slow?

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

    Cheers,

Thank you for your reply, but I have tried what you have suggested with no effects. If internet is active, it works fine. If internet isn't active, it takes 15 minutes to boot.

What exactly have you tried? Selective boot or only reset?

Selective boot and reset. Same problem when booting safe mode (F8 - safe mode). Have you tried to boot your machine with no internet connection to see if it boots normally ?

Perfectly normal here.... slight delay of 10? or less seconds (only on first boot). But not using the free version, so I am afaid I cannot confirm your findings

May be someone else with the free version can test it.

Recently, I got quite the same problem. It is NOT true, that ZA 9.2 only starts when you are connected to the internet. The fact is, if you have an active network advice, ZA waits until the connection is established. If you disconnect or deactivate the device, then ZA and the PC should start normally. I guess, this is by design but not sure. So my advice: Before you start the PC, disconnect and after boot operation is complete and ZA is fully working, connect or activate the network device.
    Hope that helps.
