    Angry [SOLVED] Scan Stalls on Windows XP --> Clean install latest version

    The virus scan has now repeatedly stalled at 44,729 files scanned, 86% complete on my Windows XP system. The scan duration clock keeps running, but nothing happens. I've never had this problem before--does anyone have any thoughts about what's going wrong?

    Hi!

    assuming your ZA is not corrupted and updated (we are at 9.1.603.000) you could try to scan but after having booted in SAFE MODE with NETWORKING ( Manual run ZA, ZA firewall will be OFF but Antivirus/Antispyware will be functional).
    This will ensure (as far as possible) that no file is locked by the system or by third party software.

    If your ZA is corrupted is not updated or corrupted you could try to update to lest version and install without keeping any previous settings.

    I did a clean install and the scan is working fine now. Before doing the scan, I also ran a program that cleans up all of the temporary files and cached items on my computer. It has been awhile since I last did a clean up, and I freed up 5 GB by doing so. So instead of stalling out after scanning 41,457 files, a complete scan now turned up 2,770 files. Amazing how Microsoft has such a knack for filling up a system with useless stuff.
