Thread: Stealth & IP address

    Default Stealth & IP address

I checked my IPaddress from cmd prompt (IPconfig/all).

It showed an IPaddress (IPv4 address): ........(preferred)
it then showed the DHCP and DNS addresses.

I went to GRC. The IP address did not match. I cross-checked the IP address of my pc with online check. It matched with the IP address shown by the GRC. Why does the address does not match?

GRC showed my port 22 is open (remote protocol). How do I use zonealarm to close it?

My OS is win7 64 bit ultimate. I use Zonealarm Extreme security and DrayTekVigor 2820 series...

What GRC is detected is the IP of your Router..
The IP address that the Router assigns your computer is an Internal address that is not viabable to the internet.

Here is the Web link for configuring DrayTekViger..

    Hi!
they are not mathing because your DrayTekVigor filters the traffic and translate the public IPs in internal IPs (NAT function).

In other words GRC is checking your router rather than ZA. Unsolicited internet calls are deflated directly by the router (and its integrated firewall).

ZA will then function manly as a filter for outbound connections. For the correct functioning of ZA ensure your DHCP IP (most likely the router address) is set as trusted in the ZA firewall zones and that ZA trusted zone is set to MEDIUM.

Thanks to Guru and Fax for their insights.

    To summarise:

The GRC check is done at the router and the test never reaches ZA. My IP address is dynamically assigned by the IP. The router assigns me an IP address, which stays hidden behind the router. I have always set the DHCP IP to trusted in the firewall zone and the ZA trusted zone is set to medium.

Since the GRC says port 22 is open, is it possible to use the expert rules to make it stealth in the ZA? Please advise the procedure if it is possible. I wonder whether this is something that has to be done at the router only.

    Regards,
    Sundar

Nope, you need to see if you can stealth it or close it from the router. ZA does not receive directly any external packets, its all filtered out by the router. May be the ISP uses that port for troubleshooting purpose?
