    Default ZA Extreme Slow boot

I have just upgraded to zonealarm extreme security version 9.1.603.000 and I have experienced considerable delay when the system starts up. It takes 3-5 min on a totally black screen, once logged on, to display the desktop.

What should be the main cause of this behavior?

    Regards,

    Pedro Cezar.

    Hi!

this can depend on many different causes, from bad ZA settings to insufficient system resources. Also on first few boots ZAX can be slow due to system learning. After a week or so it should stabilise.

Granted you have enough resources (available RAM and CPU cycles) you can troubleshoot issue of bad settings of ZA by resetting ZA configuration. This way:

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Accept default and test again. If you have still problems try to boot the system selectively to double check that there are no conflicts with other third party applications. This way:

    1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box (or search box in VISTA/Win7) and click OK (ENTER in VISTA/Win7)
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

    How does it work?

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

Please note that ZA does not play nice with many other security tools. They may block its correct functioning including updates. For example, spyware doctor, spysweeper, trojan hunter, win patrol, PCtools Threat Fire, Mcafee, Norton, Symantec, Adaware, SpybotS&D, WinPatrol, AVG, Avast free, NOD, Kaspersky, Comodo, Rising, PC Doctor, MS Security Essential, AVIRA and many others. If you want to troubleshoot issues with ZA please remove these tools (not enough to disable) and install back (if you really need) only after you see your ZA is working as it should. Double check you have really removed all other security tools by running this utility http://www.appremover.com/

Finally do no hijack other users threads, open yours.

    Fax,

I believe it's not related to insufficient system resources due to the fact that the previous version before updating, namely 9.1.008.000, was running well.

On the bad settings of ZA: this version had just been installed, no changes were made since then.

Moreover, I disabled the system startup and services entries as advised, but the problem persisted even though only ZA entry was checked, apart from the microsoft services.

Before uninstalling any other possible source of conflict (SUPERAntispyware and Malwarebytes's Anti-malware, which were already running together with the previous version of ZA), I decided to uninstall ZA and reinstall its version 9.1.507.000.

For the time being, it's running smoothly.

Finally, I ask excuses for "hijacking" one's thread.

    Thank you,

    Pedro Cezar.
