Default Windows 7 professional and ZA free 9.2.57.0

I have used ZA for many years and apart from a few hiccups about 6 years ago, think it is the greatest tool to allow you to feel you know what's going on in your machine communicating to the outside world.
I have just purchased a lenovo with windows 7 professional. I wanted to use ZA again. Have downloaded ZA free 9.2.57.0 I cannot install it no matter what I try. The install always fails with an error seemingly coming from Vsutil.dll - "GLBxxxx.tmp has stopped working" and that's it.
It never seems to get to a point where any logs are created to give any hints. I've disabled AVG - this makes no difference.
Anyone else had this - I cannot find any similar in the forum?

    Hello,

Sounds like some temp files were left over from previous installs and is causing you issues.

    1) Download the cpes_clean un-install tool from ZoneAlarm and run on your system.
    2) Then download free ZA again and install to be sure the installer file is good too.

    Uninstaller: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe

    Thanks for the quick response.

I have used the "cleaner" many times. I have also deleted the ZoneLabs folders in the program files.

I have used both FF and IE8 to download the files at various times.

The tmp files are created at each (install) attempt and exist when the install fails along with a few other files - but it never gets to the point where I can find any log files that identify what is happening. I have also checked the various system log files and there are no strange events there either.............

    most odd....

    Hi johngb,

We may have to perform a clean, manual uninstallation since the cpes_clean un-instal removal tool you tried did not work.

    Instructions are available:
    http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/...96&action=view

Let us know how it went.

    Hi Chiaz,

Followed all of the instructions, (BTW no significant entries in the registry at all, so I believe it fails long before it attempts to update the registry), and no change to the outcome I'm afraid.

We do seem to be in the same boat and have tried exactly the same things with no luck. Your error is exactly the same as mine. This only seemed to have happened with this update, as I had previously used ZA for many years too *sigh*
