Question Probly dumb newb question- but it's short

    hi board,
i've been using ZA free for years- love it.
    i just D/Led the new update [6.1.744.1 -50ish MBs].
after it D/Led they started calling it an 'upgrade'. now i'm afeared to install it because i've had other D/Ls [uniblue registry booster for one] offer an 'update' that after installation and removal of the previous version turned out to be a 30 day trial [then must purchase] upgrade. so in a month i end up with nothing.
so is this update gonna give me a completely free ZA, or a free trial version?
    thanks for any help.

    Hi quixdraw,

Follow my instructions below to "upgrade"...this will prevent potential problems compared to simply installing an upgrade over the existing installation.

First, download and run the cpes_clean tool:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe
This will do a clean uninstallation of ZoneAlarm from your system.

Now you can download the latest version of ZoneAlarm Free (9.2.057.000) from here:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html

Follow the prompts to install, and then restart your PC.

Let me know how it goes.

    thanks chiaz,
i did not know a simple [over old] install was not preferable.

so, am i to presume i won't end up with a trial/then pay situation?
them using the word 'upgrade' curls my shorthairs. i've had a number of experiences where i regretted D/Ling upgrades.
    thanks again,

I agree with what Guru chiaz has recomended..
Here is my detailed Recomendations on Upgrading ZA Free.

The safest procedure is to :

1.) Download the Latest installer preferably with IE Browser and (no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire, Bit-Torrent, uTorrent) and save it to your Hard drive.

(MultiPlatform, installer will install on Both WinXP SP3 and Vista and Windows7)

NOTE: If you need a Language than English, Click on the (Global Sites) Tab on the Top Right side to Select ZA Propducts in other Languages..

    ZoneAlarm free updates

Click on the (Global Sites) Tab on the Top Right side to Select ZA Prpducts in other Languages..

2.) Before you Uninstall your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview - Preferences tab)

3.) Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory

4.) Now Download the ZA Removal Tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...load/clean.exe

Save to desktop, right click and "run as Administrator" This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions. (you can un-install without net connections)

5.) Now Install the new update (clean) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..

Let us know if this fixes the problem for you?
