Does the current zonealarm free edition (2010 version from July) protect you for wireless connections?

ZoneAlarm is a two-way third-party firewall software. These firewalls block both incoming and outgoing threats whether wired or wireless. ZoneAlarm firewalls has always provided protection as far as personal firewall software is concerned.

    Setting wireless network security options

Automatic wireless network detection helps you configure your Internet Zone to ensure that you computer remains secure without being interrupted each time a new wireless network is detected. ZoneAlarm security software detects only wireless networks that your computer is connected to. (Networks that you are not actually connected to may appear as available networks in your network neighborhood but the New Wireless Network Configuration Wizard only appears when you connect establish a connection to that network.)

You can have ZoneAlarm security software silently include every detected wireless network in the Internet Zone.

    To specify Network settings:

    Select Firewall.

    Click Advanced.

In the Wireless Network settings area, choose your security settings.
Automatically put new unprotected wireless networks (WEP or WPA) in the Internet Zone

ZoneAlarm security software places new wireless networks in the Internet Zone when they are detected.

    Click OK.

The first line of defense for your Wi-Fi network is encryption, which encodes the data transmitted between your PC and your wireless router. Unfortunately, most routers ship with encryption turned off, and many users don't turn it on, leaving themselves completely exposed. If you haven't already, enable your router's encryption, and use the strongest form supported by your network. The Wireless Protected Access (WPA) protocol and more recent WPA2 have supplanted the older and less-secure Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP).

Go with WPA or WPA2 if at all possible, since WEP is relatively easy to crack.
