Default ZA Extreme : Configuration issues

    Hi again,
You have to give us more time to answer.
I JUST had surgery and had to lay down for a few,
which I am going to do after I type this

I remove the EX using the remove tool and reinstalled it.
I was in error, I thought there would be 2 buttons after the 1st program scan.
There was on 1 button that changed it's 'spots'.

I re-configged except for the special setting my my home network,
and I know I had some other things but I don't remember.
Is there any place to see other configs and what they do,
    on the ZA site?

    Thanks again ...
signing off 4 NOW, but I will be back tomorrow, PROMISE!!!

    Hi!

ok, I moved the post in the right section. As far as I undertand you managed to install and now you want support on configuration. So it is good we create a new thread since the issue discussed before has been resolved.

May be you can start reviewing the general support video for helpful hints on how to install and configure.

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/me...upport-01.html

Also you can review the PDF manual of ZA here:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/me...ser_manual.pdf

What you have re-configured exactly? What do you see under zones?

Take care and safe recovery from the surgery

    Cheers,

    You are very welcome!

I would only recommend you turn ON virtualization in the ZA browser security section --> Settings --> advanced --> Tick on Virtualization
This is the only important setting that is OFF by default and that it adds great protection to your browsing.

Also note that there may inconsistencies between the 9.1 Manual and 9.3 versions due to slight changes in some options.

    Cheers,

I found yet another config issue this morning when trying to get the network up and running

Here is what I have ticked.
I 'think' the problem is in this area:
access permissions - trusted zones, always allow
    default in custom firewall settings

    Advance button:
    auto check gateway
    --
this computer is an ics/nat gateway
    10.0.0.2
    suppress alerts
    --
    allow VPN
    filter traffic over 1394
    lock hosts
    disable windows firewall
    --
    include network in trusted zone
    enable IpV6 networking
    ------
    I forgot to add this:
In the firewall zones I have the
    bellsouth.net - 10.0.0.1/255.255.255.0
    loopback adapter - 127.0.0.1
    dhcp server - 10.0.0.1
    dhcp server - 10.0.0.2
    all trusted

This is a 1st time with a wireless network.
I am using a netgear rangemax dual band
and on this machine it is wired.

Sorry the message is pretty unreadable... what you ticked?
You should not touch those advance conf. settings.

In general ZA Extreme is designed to work out of the box (automatic configuration). Changes to advanced features should be applied if there specific issue or ad-hoc setup to take care of specific problems.

Why having ICS ON? Why suppress alerts? Why including by default networks in the trusted zone? These are all non default settings that can make your system unsafer and not working correctly. Unless you clearly explain why you did it or you did it for a reason?

To get a reasoned help here you will need to better explain what is your setup. Other computers in your house connecting? You are connected to a router? Or other computer connect to this router? Is it a cable provider? Etc... etc... and most of all why you are changing defaults that should rarely by touched

    Cheers,
