My security setup is Avast 5 plus Malwarebytes Anti Malware and, until today, Windows Firewall. I have just tried to upgrade to ZA Free Firewall 9.2.057 (from cnet). Clicked to restart, to complete the installation. Windows part loaded and I was left with a pale pink coloured blank screen. (Will be the solid colour of my desktop background).
I had previously done a Restore Point. Tried F8 to get to Safe Mode--- no response. No START, so cannot get to running MYSCONFIG.
Put the genuine Windows XP Home Version 2002 SP2 cd (which came with my PC tower from new) into the CD-ROM drive. Used F11, arrow keyed to CD/DVD :SM BENQ DVD-ROM 16X, did Enter and kept quickly and constantly pressing Any Key ( was s ).Windows loaded to the pink screen. Tried many times with permutations, using CD/DVD:SM drive and both ROM and writeable drives from F11/F2 start point. No joy.
I did think that the genuine XP cd should display and have some sort of boot/rescue/restore feature built in, perhaps even to kick in automatically, but this may not be the case.
An idea I have is that a dedicated XP boot cd would do the job. If this is a good solution, I would appreciate a link to a download of a free program of this, to download to a friendís Windows 7 laptop for burning to cd . Any alternative ideas would be gratefully received. My further tower spec is SP3, K8 combo-z board, BIOS P.1.50. AMD Athlon ô 64 Processor 3000+, 2000MHz, memory 1024 MB.
