Default [SOLVED] ZA Free and download speed --> Linked to AVAST

I had also recently noticed a reduction in speed. I last checked it a year or more ago, and typically got 7-8 Mbps. Now I was down to an average of 5.5 Mbps running Free version 9.2.057. Today I uninstalled that version and loaded 8.0.298, and the speed is back up to 7+ Mbps. There is definitely something bad about version 9, giving a 25% reduction in internet speed.

Default ZA Free and download speed

I have a nominal 10 Mbps internet service, and the last time I checked the actual speed (over a year ago) I typically saw 7-8 Mbps (I've been using the free ZA for many years). Last week I started checking again and found the average speed was down to 5.3 Mbps. By a process of elimination I found that ZA was responsible for this speed loss - if I shut down ZA the speed went up to 7+ Mbps. Restart ZA, speed down to 5+. I removed 9.2.057, then reinstalled 8.0.298, and now have speeds of 7+ Mbps again.

What is it about version 9 that is causing this 25% reduction in download speed?

Sorry all users here... no ZA staff. If version 8 performs better on your system than 9 then stay with 8.
There are no issue here with speed nor for most users. Not sure what happens there.

Last discussion on speed with input from ZA moderator was here:

Without retracting my finding that ZA9 caused a 25% download speed reduction compared to ZA8, some more testing revealed the major culprit in speed reduction - Avast Antivirus.

As I said earlier I have a nominal 10 Mbps service. Using a PC hard-wired to my router, I now typically get 7+ Mbps with ZA8. By temporarily disabling Avast AV that figure soared to 10+, on occasion reaching 15 Mbps.

With a Dell laptop on a wireless connection (and ZA9), my typical speed is 3 Mbps. Disabling ZA pushes that to 5 Mbps. Restoring ZA and disabling Avast kicks it up to 10+ Mbps.

So, I'm now looking for another AV program with less of a speed reduction.

Thank you very much for taking the time to report about the resolution.
I will revise the title to mirror the findings.

I wanted to note something here.

Recently it been found that Avast version 5 has problems with ZA.

Avast tech support only responds to this issue by saying to remove ZA.

Users here have reported going back to Avast version 4 resolves the bugs in Avast version 5.
