I am Extreme version 9.3.014.000
Since install I have been having 2 significant issues. First, fairly consistently my machine would totally freeze up. It would not respond in any way. I discovered that if I shut down ZA it would come back. I finally discovered that it was the update process that was causing the issue. Even more directly if I went in to Display Update the update dialog would display. Even though it had been running for hours the percentage was sitting at zero. Evidently the update server at Check Point is overloaded or has some other technical issue and is not responding to the update request. Instead of Zone Alarm timing out or recognizing the lack of response it just sits there with the machine unresponsive as long as it takes.
In research this I see that the typical response is for the ZA folks to claim it is a problem with your O/S or a bad install then they quickly lock the thread. I wonder if it's about time to fix the real problem? Or is this thread going to be locked or deleted as quickly as the others?
Secondly, after installation and configuration I discovered that a total reboot from shutdown occasionally results in all the configuration settings going away. It doesn't happen everytime. But it does happen. I know it has happened when immediately after reboot it pops up a window asking if I want to recogize the "new network connection" which I already had configured. It happens infrequent enough to be a bother but not a total turnoff.
If I could get the update process fixed I could accept the issue with the lost settings. As it is I have update totally turned off. I will start manually running the update each evening when I am done for the day. I cannot waste hours at a time waiting for a non-responsive update server to respond.
BTW. This is NOT a problem with my network connection. I am able to link to my VPN at work, run remote desktop and perform various other network activities just fine. I have also verified that Windows Firewall is NOT active.
