Thread: ZAP ignores clicks on Win7 taskbar & desktop

Question ZAP ignores clicks on Win7 taskbar & desktop

Once I upgraded to Win 7 (Premium Home, 32-bit), I can no longer click on the small ZAP icon in the taskbar and have it do anything. It totally ignores all clicks, left or right. The regular icon on the desktop properly points to the right path ("C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe"), but it also does nothing when I click or double-click it.

I've run commercial registry cleaner/fix-it tools, but these problems remain.

    Any suggestions?

this sounds like a Corrupted ZA Configuration File..

    try a ZA Reset:

To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make
note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

If you had ZAPro installed previous to upgrading to Windows 7, then you may have to Reinstall ZAPro 9.3.014.000 agtain..

Thanks for the reply, George, but please recall that any clicks on the ZA icon DO NOTHING. I cannot perform step 2 because of the very reason stated in my OP.

In any case, I tried uninstalling and re-installing the most recent version of ZAP from scratch, but the exact same problem remains: Clicks on any ZA icon are entirely ignored except every once in a while a right-click on the ZA taskbar icon near the clock will show something like: "GUI is initializing". Note that this will still show up hours and hours after a reboot. Note also that ZAP is clearly functioning otherwise, as I still get warnings.

Bottom line: I still need urgent help with this problem.

    Thank you for your Feedback..

The "GUI is initializing" indicates that ZAP Install was Corrupted and was not fully installed.. or Some other Security program on your Windows 7 32-bit computer is Blocking Zone Alarm from running..

Most New Windows 7 computer come with Trial versions of McAfee or Norton installed and Need to be fully Un-installed with Speciall Removal Tools provided from the McAfee or Symantec Web-site..

Since you have ZAP, I suggest Contacting the official ZA Tech Support Live Chat link

Click on the Support link in my Signature..

When Contacting Tech Support give them information about your computer configuration and what the steps you take to reproduce the GUI is initializing problem?

    ZA Type and version
    PC CPU speed
    PC memory size
    OS Windows 7 32-bi
Laptop or Desktop and Brand name
List any other Security Programs installed
Exactly what is done to reproduce the issue in the application.
