Default Diagnostics Capture Utility opened by iteself

    Hello.

I started a full scan this morning and left for work. When I came home the Diagnostics Capture Utility was open.

Anyone ever have that happen to them?

    Hello,

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

can you post possibly a little more information about your computer configuration and what the steps there are to reproduce the problem?

    Also:
    ZA type (Free/Pro/AV/Suite/Extreme) and version # ?
    PC CPU speed
    PC memory Size
    Desktop/Laptop/Netbook
Windows OS version including Service packs
    Version of software having issues.
Is there any other Security Programs installed that may Conflict with Zone Alarm?
Exactly what is done to reproduce the issue in the application.

    Hello,

The reason the diag utility opened by it self is because ZA detected a problem with one of our processes and wants the logs of the system uploaded to Development can look at them at a later time. Possibly fixing an issue in a later release. (not a fix for you particular PC, nor will you get a response about the issue)

In the next release (2011) there will be a dialog that will tell users why it was ran the diag utility automatically and what to do next.

this contradicts the discussion in the following:

    https://www.zonealarm.com/forums/sho...curity-Concern

This utility can clearly run an upload logs including screen captures by itself & with no authorization

Yes that other thread was incorrect and has been removed.

Thank you for pointing that out.

The diagnostic tool will run when certain errors within ZA occur and Logs from ZA are uploaded.

No other PC logs or other program logs or screen captures of any sort are uploaded automatically when a internal ZA error occurs.

so are you saying the screen capture utility does not upload captures automatically in any way whatsoever?

and the information ZA receives doesn't contain any users personal information?

Thats correct. The automatic upload of logs that happens when ZA encounters an internal error will not upload and screen captures on its own and only uploads ZA logs.

We do not go out and capture logs or other persoanl data from the PC. We only collect the data from our application only.

While there is a screen capture option in the diagnostics tool that only works when the user actually does the capture and manually uploads logs. Automatic uploads never do that.
