Default Newbie has question about possible security threat

Howdy. I'm using ZA-Free on my Win XP computer, Firefox browser and have a question about the possible danger as follows:

Why is this IP address listed in Zone Alarm? I just noticed that there is a listing in my "Trusted" zone the following:
    Name: Mapped Drive
    IP: 208.68.139.89

    I did not enter this.

A reverse IP lookup shows this to be 'fastsearch.net', owned by Microsoft.

Why is this listed, what is it, how did it get there, should it be there, does it pose a security threat?

    Hi!
where are you connected from? Is this a business environment or home?
Any particular hardware running on the system?

Please see here below about mapped drive, it may ring a bell?

    Thanks for the response.

This computer is on my home network, hard-wired to wireless router. The wireless connection is secured and seldom used.

I don't know how long the subject IP address has been listed, I just noticed it when I was doing some maintenance. Since it was put there without my knowledge, I am wondering if it is something Microsoft put there to be able to track useage, etc, ie: is it Spyware?

The IP number you listed belongs to "Fast Search & Transfer, Inc." a subsidiary of Microsoft.com..

It looks like you or some one with access to your computer, clicked on a Pop up or web-page offer to try a new faster Search engine sometime in the past year..

Yeah, I found out who's IP it was, but since no-one but me uses this computer, and I know for certain that I did not try a 'faster search engine', I don't know how it got there.

Also, the question remains, is this 'spyware'? Spybot-Search & Destroy did not identify it as such. Will it be okay to just delete the entry in the "Trusted Zone"?

It could related to an hardware temporalely attached to the PC or some software that made available resources to the system (tipically remote backup systems). I would exclude MS spyware or similar.

Just remove it from the list and check that the system works as it should.

Although you might not be using Firefox, some of the advice below could apply to your situation, as Fast Browser Search seems to install on all browsers on your system through the registry or through files installed with a browser add-on/extension.

Look at some of these proposed solutions from the Firefox support site:

Here is a Google search with posts on the Firefox support site concerning Fast Browser Search in the last 12 months:
