I'm evaluating ZoneAlarm AntiVirus 9.3.037.000 (fully updated to DAT 1033122528)
Host is Windows XP Pro SP3, in a Microsoft Virtual PC, virgin installation with NO OTHER SOFTWARE installed.
When I run a normal, or deep, scan, it runs for between 58 seconds and 1 minute 10 seconds before the virtual PC freezes.
When I run a quick scan, it normally completes in approx 1 minute 11 seconds (scanning 1579 files as it does so) though, just once, it too froze the PC at exactly 1 minute 00 seconds.
By virtue of restoring a clone of the Virtual PC, several times, I know this behaviour to be broadly repeatable, though the exact time elapsed, and the last file identified for scanning, varies each time.
I have also tried running in Safe Mode, and in that case all three types of scan run to completion in between 26 minutes and 30 minutes (though the number of files scanned is vastly greater, being 9,583 in Quick Scan, 9,607 in Normal and a whopping 21,232 in Deep).
Can anyone suggest a debug/diagnostic strategy to determine the reason for the freezes?
For that matter, and anyone shed light on the variation on the number of files scanned, in Quick scan, between normal and safe operation.
I'm getting confused here.
